Cannot boot except with option key

Well after digging around on the Apple web site I found readme about the install process. Probably had it on the CD and it's not easy to find on the Apple site. But it does say that the Mac Standard disk format is not supported under OS X and that's what was on my ATA drive. Then I...

    Help Me!

Why not get it from Apple? They sell it on their web site.

Cannot boot except with option key

Well, the second time I installed, the restart put me back into OS 8.1 (the OS that was on the box when I bought it). I had to do the rebless rigamarole to fix that. (How can anybody complain about command lines when the alternative is GUI wierdness like that?) I tried installing into a Mac...

Cannot boot except with option key

I interrupted the install because it could not see my external SCSI disk. I got out and had to restart with the option key held down. I initialized the disk and did the install. When I restarted, I got a blank screen. When I hold the option key down, I get OS9. OSX is no where to be seen...

    repartition my disk?

Thanks, Beau, for your response. I'm running a stock G3 All-in-one. 266-MHz, 4G ATA drive, 288Mb RAM, 6Mb video (I know, more than 4 is pretty much a waste). I thought about installing into the existing partition, but it sounds sort of irreversible unless you know EXACTLY where to put...

    repartition my disk?

Wow, no one knows the answer to this. I'm really getting into uncharted waters, here, huh? ;-) Well, even the thought of reinstalling all that stuff is too painful; I'm basically lazy. Think I'll figure out how to add an external drive...

    repartition my disk?

I have only have one partition on my disk. From the info I've seen, you can't repartition the startup disk. Is this correct or am I missing something here? I'm new to this Mac stuff, having wasted my life on Windows and Linux, so be gentle, please. Just want to know if I should start...
