No more PowerBook... now we play the waiting game...

When I first read this thread ( a couple of weeks ago) I was unable to post a reply, but I felt for ya bud. I thought to myself how upset i'd be if I lost my little pizmo. It is the integral piece of my entire project. Well...... I must have tempted fate..... 2 days ago whilst I went to...

    Paris Expo

A G5 powerbook would be nice. I have the luxury of not needing it this second, so if they don't ship 'til Dec that suits me fine as I wont need to order until Jan anyway! :D Hopefully they will at least bring the 15" onto the same level as the 12" & 17" as a 15" would do me fine, but the...

M$ has surrendered to the Blaster worm

Yeah, my bro got the virus too. It took me a little while longer than 5 mins to fix it as his pc kept crashing whilst downloading the windows update patch - and he's on 56k so it was slow anyway. The little symantec patch was good though. I'd installed norton on his machine but he wasnt patched...

    Cool Software Update click spot

This is probably a really simple question, but how do you make updates inactive? I dont have an airport or and ipod(yet!!!! - the new ipods look cool) so I dont want the updates. Cheers

    Problems with DVD Player

VLC definitly. I have a G3 pbook (non-firewire bronze keyboard) and I cant play DVD's at all under X as I dont have a firewire port. I know this sounds odd, but Apple, in their infinite wisdom deemed my book unsuitable to play DVD's under X. VLC allows me to do this.

10.2.5 is here boys and gals...

Indeed they do, i do it myself as a precaution. That way I know it's done. [update to my earlier post] I've now updated to 10.2.5, and my original httpd.conf seems intact. No changes made. Everything worked as normal. I had to reboot a couple of times as I had some screen redraw problems...

10.2.5 is here boys and gals...

for those of you it's not too late for, dont forget to back up your httpd.conf file (if you use it) You find it at: ./private/etc/httpd/httpd.conf you'll need to sudo cp it: cd /private/etc/httpd sudo cp httpd.conf /users/[yourname]/sites/ [enter password] that will back it up to...

    transparency on all windows?

[Update / correction] It is 'diablotin' you need. You can find it at http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12720 Tinkertool is also available but for some odd reason, their current version, available from versiontracker won't install. Apologies to anyone who has tried.:(

    transparency on all windows?

I'm not sure, but I think you can do what you're after if you use either diablotin or tinkertools. Both are available on version tracker (www.versiontracker.com). I suspect it's diablotin, but both are useful anyway for different things, like making the hidden UNIX files visible (not recommended...

    iBook battery 56 % charge drops suddenly to 0 % !!!

I have a Lombard g3 400, 6gig, 384mb I recently had to rebuild because of oddities with sleep amongst other things. However, I've tested my battery and I dont seem to suffer from the same bug as everyone else. I've rebuilt using all the steps mentioned earlier in the thread (and those linked...

The truth about Jaguar, your current Mac, and Apple...

So true ab... You're an iClient if: your Macintosh can be depreciated. My favourite line as well. I'd probably be a bit of an iJunkie too if the budget allowed it..... :p

Can't play DVD's on my powerbook

It would seem that is only true for apple's dvd player. After downloading and installing VLC (which is freeware) I can play dvd's under X. However, cos my book is only a g3 400, the performance is rather poor (project budget won't stand a new Powerbook :o( ). So it's better to watch them...
