access the other mac on my network

Are you trying to see it from another Mac or Windows machine? Does the machine have a valid IP address for the network? One T/S step would be to shut off the firewall on the machines and see if it shows up. It's tough to call it w/o more info on your network setup.

Apple File Sharing over the Internet

"marzer - sorry, that doesn't help." gsahil- I see your pointed and arrogant comment to be unwarranted and unecessary. I was simply trying to offer and alternative perspective to the original poster's problem, as many many participants do throughout this board. Or did I misunderstand the...

    I killed my iTunes!

Well, given that you have nothing unusal in the way of audio software installed or questionable music file quality, I'd be inclined to suspect the circuitry or perhaps some sort of interference (perhaps associated with heat build-up or some other evironmental condition). To troubleshoot, I'd...

Apple File Sharing on a local network

Yes, that's correct, the NAT network behind the Airpot prevents the other machines from accessing the MacBook Pro directly. Using port filtering as described above will permit access to the machine from other IP subnets. But does the Base station have a configurable firewall to pass services...

    Drive Mappings Persistent

Yes, that's right, dropping the aliases directly into the Login Items does work for persistence. However, even when you check the hide option the respective windows still open up. With the workflow, selecting "hide" prevents the windows from poping up every time you login. Of course, that's...

Remote Login into a Windows Server with a Mac

Do you know for sure the remote site will only work with IE? If not, try logging in via a different browser, like FireFox. If it works with other browsers on Windows, it should work with Mac browsers. Mark

    Drive Mappings Persistent

Also, in the Connect To Server dialog you can add frequently used servers to the favorites list for quick access later. For persistance, a method I used was an automator script. Using the "Get Specified Servers" action to pass all my server URLS to the "Connect to Servers" action. Both are...

Apple File Sharing over the Internet

The address you enter should be your DSL router IP address plus one. Typically in a home broadband configuration the point of presence (POP) router is given an address to identify it on the internet. That router will serve one additional address to a network device connected to it (DSL router...

Apple File Sharing on a local network

Do you mean the "Connect To Server" dialog? Or the Network browser? Unlike earlier versions of Mac OS X, in Tiger the "Connect To Server" dialog does not detect and display available servers. Although, you can add frequently used addresses to the list box. The network browser, however...

    Setting up a Music Server

Ooh, I assumed a home network setup. Yeah, not sure if iTunes sharing is your best bet in large scale serving. I would also assume then that you will have mixed (and many) clients (Mac, Win, possibly Linux/Unix) hitting it. In such a case that most definitely would not be the best way to go...

    Setting up a Music Server

It would be helpful to know how you want to use the server: just share music amongst computers? Stream playlists across a network? Or even Internet? Play content to a stereo rack? However, using iTunes share feature is the simpliest way to share music libraries over the network. Just be...
