    I don't get it?

Make sure you have OpenGL drivers for your graphics card installed properly. If not, you will be using software rendering, and that would be slow on a dual 800 G4 as well. . .

    Learning Java 2.0

There's a free electronic book called "Thinking in Java" by Bruce Eckel. You can download his books at http://www.mindview.net/Books/DownloadSites/. I don't know about the Java book - since I haven't read it - but his Thinking in C++ book is quite good.

Getting Apache webserver to run on OS X PB

Ahh...it was <B>so</B> easy. I was looking for words like "Web sharing" like in OS 9, preferably written on a 256x64 big button ;) Ok, activating the web server from sys. prefs and typing localhost in the address field in my browser gives me the index.html file in the Documents folder of the web...

Using Internet applications in Classic environment

If I connect to the Internet via modem using PPP Connect in MacOS X, and then want to be able to run applications both in native OS X and in Classic that depends on the precense of an Internet connection, how do I then do to accomplish that? If I connect in OS X and launch e.g. IE5 in...

Help - how do I format my second ATA drive?

I had only one 10 GB disk until today. Today I got my 75GXP 45 GB disk. I jumpered it to slave mode and put it on top of my 10 GB disk in my G4 tower. I start up the computer and open Disk Utility. After clicking on Drive Setup and selecting the GXP disk, I set up the partitions and click...

    OS X icons

Any possibility to get the IconComposer separately? The dev. tools is 60 MB and I'm on 56k modem :( If it can be used separately without having lots of the other files in the dev. tools, maybe someone can send it to me via email (if it's not available for separate download anywhere)? That...

    OS X icons

I know that icons can be as large as 128x128 pixels in OS X, but what are the different icon sizes? I suppose there's 32x32 and maybe 64x64, but other than that? Also, what about transparency; can any color be transparent or just white? I've looked at some application's package contents. I...

Unable to repair disk with Disk Utility

I restarted and held down the S key. What a DOS experience! :D Anyway, I wrote in "/sbin/fsck -y" (and noticed that keyboard layouts didn't work in the more primitive command environment...) and hit enter. The test ran and it found a minor error in the volume header. The numbers within the...

Ok, so it is possible to choose OS 9 system folder in the Startup Disk preference panel, reboot and then choose OS X system in the OS 9 special designed Startup Disk control panel? But not possible to hold down alt upon startup to choose system if I got both system on the same partition? Is...

    Rebooting into OS 9

Aha..ok. So then I can never get back into OS X if choose to start with OS 9? That's too bad. I don't even have two partitions; I have both systems on the same partition on my one and only disk. Hmm...my little 10 GB disk has been filled up for months now, and the 75GXP models are very cheap...

    Rebooting into OS 9

Hello! If I choose the OS 9 system folder in the Startup Disk preference panel, what are my alternatives for booting back to OS X after I've done what I wanted in OS 9? Do I have to choose the OS X system from within the special designed System Disk control panel that came with the OS X...

    Lock Workstation?

Cool! I'm to green to remember anything about NeXT and so on. I have only used computers since the middle nineties. So NeXT was earlier on with both dock and processviewer than NT? That's interesting...BTW, anywhere I can get a hold of screenshots of the NeXT OS with dock and processviewer...

    Lock Workstation?

Thanks! It wasn't the easiest installation I've done, but it works now anyway =) BTW, do you know if I could replace the actual screensaver to something more funny; maybe something animated, and if so, how do I do it? N/A

    Lock Workstation?

I find it very smart of Apple to put in good stuff from NT in OS X PB like ProcessViewer (in NT known as TaskManager). What I do miss is an option of locking the computer. In NT, I just press ctrl-alt-delete and hit "Lock Workstation". Is there any chance to lock a Mac running OS X without...
