    iBrary

Apple is said to be working on some sort of digital device that deals with text, so this could fit that scenario nicely. It's doubtful but possible. Lots of nice ideas, at least, so even if this isn't an Apple app, it could still be cool. The name iBrary (like the other names mentioned on...

MSN 8 for Mac users too?

Get your facts straight. MS e-mail apps have had a junk mail filter since, oh, Microsoft Mail & News, which was a '97 app. There's such a feature in Outlook Express and Entourage, too. All of these apps have a junk mail filter that can be told that "this message is not junk", and they also...

How do you make .iso files in OSX?

Yup, Finder 10.2 only does ISO9660 discs, unlike 10.1.5, which can burn HFS+ discs. I don't know why you would want to burn a HFS+ disc, though, so in my eyes it's a good thing they simplified the burning process.

Weird Stuff Going On In System Preferences

I had a similar prob with the Sound panel. It's caused by a bonked cache file. To fix it, do this: 1. Quit SysPrefs if it's open. 2. Delete ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache (~ refers to your Home directory) 3. Relauch SysPrefs.

IBM gives vision for future Macs

The part name is PowerPC 970. Ahh, now we no longer have to hear ignorant babble about "GPUL". Giga Processor Ultra Lite. Geez. How can anyone think that IBM could use such a name -- they use short, concise product names like PowerPC, Power4 and Regatta.

IBM gives vision for future Macs

Reportedly, it is. It's not going by the name AltiVec since the trademark belongs to Motorola. If this chip was ever used in a Mac, its vector unit would be branded "Velocity Engine". This is why Apple has its own name for AltiVec -- they can switch between compatible technologies and have the...

IBM gives vision for future Macs

The GPUL, by the way, is not an official codename for the processor part. Some Mac/PPC enthusiasts were probably bored and tried to come up with a cool sounding name (failing miserably in the process). The part currently has no official name.

Apple to add SMS synching between iCal, iSync, Address Book and Nokia phones...?

The reason why certain models are introduced first in Asia or the US is that some models are geared towards non-European audiences. Certain models from the 8000 family are Europe only (and one of them is Finland only), while other 8000 series phones are Asia only. Meanwhile, one of the 9000s is...

    Labels in X!

gregarios, that's actually a good thing under most circumstances. A little app called CocoaGestures is a nice example. It adds mouse gestures (mouse movement equivalents for menu commands) into all Cocoa apps (like Chimera, Mail, iCal...). Instead of having to do this on the app level for all...

    Mac OS X 10.3 Panther!

kommakazi, I think it would be healthy for your claim to have some substance around it. Like, say, coherent arguments? The old model still applies. 10.0 was for-pay, 10.1 was for-free, 10.2 was for-pay. You are suggesting that it's somehow obvious that this will not continue based on... what...

Apple to add SMS synching between iCal, iSync, Address Book and Nokia phones...?

For the record, Asia Pacific is always second on Nokia's model introduction roadmap. Europe comes first, since they can prototype and test new models easier when they're "closer to home". However, new models launch near-simultaneously in the two regions. I'm not sure about US launches, but...

iDisk space explodes to 1 gigabyte!!!

Each iDisk account lies on the server in such a fashion that it can quickly be expanded if a user purchases more storage space. The accounts have a virtual buffer around them. This way Apple can avoid having to juggle accounts between disks and partitions if someone decides to upgrade. As a side...

    Mac OS X 10.3 Panther!

For what it's worth, Services were in the context menu in, like, one or two dev builds of Jaguar. And no, Services and ADD are not the same. At all. ADD detects data types and assigns them to task categories accordingly, while Services just handle data when initialized by the user (either by...

    Jobs has resigned!

It's the "board room shuffle", as As The Apple Turns so elegantly put it. Fun fun fun! Gap's CEO resigned from Apple's board of directors and now Apple's CEO resigned from Gap's board. Freaky. Oh, plastic, you might want to reconsider the color scheme of your sig, now that the board has a new...

    Mac OS X 10.3 Panther!

No, it was not. Apple specifically instructed retailers to give it away free. Apple's own retail locations gave it away free. Most retail locations allowed you to burn as many copies to CD-R as you needed.
