    running local CGI scripts

Thanks to lurk, I can FTP to my own computer, upload CGI files, and set permissions. I can see my huge doily html site no problem. It's a bit unsettling to see my directory structure via FTP, think I'll be turning FTP off inbetween use. Thanks to the Mac GUI, and lurk, it's just one...

    running local CGI scripts

Aha, I see it, thanks Lurk! Hmm. Well I'd guess that mastering Unix command line syntax would give you more control over any Unix based server, so once you've made that time investment I can see you'd be pleased to have that power. And I can see that a GUI is extra overhead on any...

    running local CGI scripts

Yes, doily serving! That's what I want to do! Where's the darn doily button?? :-) Seriously, I take your point. I guess there's a logic to assuming that Perl programmers wouldn't mind command line stuff. Though most who might want to install a Perl program wouldn't actually be...

    running local CGI scripts

Hi again, thanks for your thoughts. I hear you, and am not asking for a GUI for programming perl. Maybe somebody has, or will, create such a tool, and that would be interesting indeed, but I don't expect that in the OS. And I'm not disappointed that the civilian version of MacOSX...

    running local CGI scripts

Been a web coder for 10 years. Never needed the terminal before. And I don't need the terminal now for coding on remote Unix servers, only on the local one. If Apple, and Mac app developers, can provide us with a Mac GUI for working on remote Unix servers, why not on the local one...

    running local CGI scripts

Thank you very much. I was hoping for a way to do bulk permissions, as my programs typically contain dozens of files, or more. With FTP I can highlight an unlimited number of files on the remote Unix server, and set permissions for all of them with a click. It's a Mac experience! :-)...

    running local CGI scripts

Can anyone be so kind as to offer a Mac-like explanation of how to set permissions of CGI scripts in personal web sharing? Hopefully I have correctly configured Apache to permit CGI. And I know how to serve html files via my local Apache. I think I just need to learn how to set the...

    error when double clicking files

Hi guys, I'm on a G5 iMac, OSX 10.3.8. I have a LaCie firewire drive attached. Having some trouble opening files via double clicking. When I double click TextWrangler files I get this error: "This Apple Event was unknown to the recipient and could not be processed (MacOS Error...

    Speech to Text software

If you have an ongoing need for speech recog that merits spending many hours getting set up, then iListen is certainly worth a look. The software works, imperfectly, after a lot of input and training on your part. I was just trying to warn folks that speech recog is not at the same...

    Speech to Text software

Be careful of ViaVoice, I think it may no longer be under development. Speech recog is a big time investment, you don't want to get sucked in to a product that has been abandoned. If you only have one project, like a pile of tapes you want converted to text, hire a transcriptionist...

Linking in to the iTunes store?

Adam, thanks so much for your reply. I've been doing html for 10 years but it would have taken me another 10 to figure that one out. So simple, once you know the trick. This opens up a whole new section of my web site. Thanks man, appreciate it!

    Speech to Text software

iListen from MacSpeech is the only speech to text Mac app as I understand it. Anyway, it's clearly the most developed at least. I forget the exact price, $100-$150 something like that. The real investment is the time investment though, setting up and learning a speech to text program is...

    Windows programs on tiger?

I've got Virtual PC installed on a G3 iMac, and it is indeed slow, but useful for a quick check of a web page. That's about it really. I'm wondering how much faster the latest version of VPC would run on my new G5 iMac. Anybody made that transition and care to comment?

Linking in to the iTunes store?

Hi all, Does anyone know if it's possible to code a web link that will launch iTunes, and take you in to a specific section of the iTunes store? I want to write some music reviews, and this would seem to be a good legal way to provide samples. Thanks!
