It's an 867MHz (1.128G) 12" Powerbook G4, running OSX 10.4.6 and is connected to the internet (quite happily,otherwise) via Airport thru a D-Link DI-524 wireless router. Other than System Update, it connects to the net just fine.

I have another problem. For no reason, OSX now puts a border around whatever is selected. A filename in Finder, a selected icon on the desktop and statements in error boxes all now have black borders. It's as though CSS is used and has 'border: 1px solid black' (I presume it's not CSS, but...

For the last few days I've noticed that Software Update doesn't connect. After a couple of minutes I get an error stating that it can't connect to the internet and I should check the connection (obviously I'm connected already). Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

Just to add to the 'me too' list (and to reassure anyone else with a Powerbook) I got a really long boot up time after installing 10.4.6. The powerbook also rebooted in the middle of trying to boot. But afterwards, it is running just fine. [12" PowerBook 867/1G]

I see. That makes a lot of sense. Something else to consider: Right now, I'm sharing an internet (ethernet) connection from a Powerbook G4 which also has a f/w drive attached. Is it viable to use that connection as an external drive? Where is the speed bottleneck?
