even when logged in as system root I couldn't open the 'startup disk' panel - 'system preferences' still just instantly quit.
so .. I have wiped the whole sytem and am in the process of installing OS9 on one clean partition and OSX on another. ... so when I have time to finish this game I...
I have foolishly/wisely installed OSX PB straight over a fresh OS9 install.
[no please don't panic here - it is just a spare, unused iMac ... no humans were injured and no data lost.]
However I cannot boot into OS9 ... the startup panel (of System Preferences) just quits whenever...
.. anyway I have it but am relying on the feedback here to decide where to install it. .. unfortunately no-one has it! ... and i am just dying to install !!

.. I mean surely you only have drivers for the G3 upgrade and the USB card in OS 9 ... so OS X is using these??? - I mean it has to be using the processor - it has no choice right?
.. one last thing .. what is the performance comparison??

I noticed in your suggestion to include config as a footer that you had several cards installed. So .. do the cards work with OS X and do the disks running off the cards run with OS X??

So it could be that it is really just to support easier ugrades to os x... or even provide classic support...
That idea would seem logical but I am sure 9.1 was/is just an upgrade they have to produce to release any new hardware before then.

I am hoping to install on a UMAX clone w/ G3 upgrade & Ultra SCSI2 card/drives as it is just sitting around unused. Alternatively I will have to use a supported iMac.
So was just wondering what successes people have had on installing on older machines - especially ones with upgrades.
