Hi all,
i'm looking for a solution to install the free Darwin Streaming Server on my PowerBook G4 running MacOSX 10.1.1. I downloaded the source-code and tried a build, but that failed :(.
I could not find any precompiled binaries to install...
Any ideas anyone?

Hi,
unfortunatly i can't help you with your specufic problem, but if you can live with 2.6 there is a precompiled binary at Stepwise.

P.S.
The build in ftpd has a lot more to give than most people think ;)
Hi,
have a closer look at Webmin . You have to install it for MacOSX-Server 1.3, but it runs perfectly and ... it has some sort of GUI for Apache. You still have to know what you're doing though ;)

Hi Boi,
even with macosx you're still working with a macintosh :)
Unless you are speaking of the built-in or selfcompiled unix tools you can move them to whereever you want them to be.
Me personally i leave the standard-apps (the ones delivered by apple) where they are (/Applications or...
Hi vic,
Thanks for the link. Stepwise is always a good thing to look for MacOSX-ressources.
It's good to here that you've solved your problem :)

Hi,
No, actually not. And, this doesn't work for me. All i see is "Local Network" and "Apple Talk". Nothing like "Windows Network"... Giving smb://some.ip.add.ress doesn't do it either :(
Am i missing something? This should be in some sort of control panel. Choosing the workgroup, the...
Hi,
i know that smbfs finally made it's way into the kernel and there is a mount_smbfs command. Oh well, it even works from the CLI, but this is not at all what i'd expect from Apple. Where is a GUI-Tool (Browsing, mounting etc...)?
As far a speed is concerned MacOSX still feels slower...
No, i'm afraid not :(
What a real pity is, is that the samba-client is not ready yet in the 10.1 release. This leaves nfs as the only fully working solution (well, without mounting on desktop).

Sorry vic, it doesn't. Not a word about things yet to do or anythings about "Don't install on production machines" like they did with the earlier builds. It looks very very final.
Still, where is the WOOOWWW-speed, where is the smb-client?

Hi,
the "Virtual Server"-Directive within this httpd.conf is invalid. Hence the server is not working properly. Without it it works fine (uncomment "Listen" and "Virtual Server"). You can see it running here:
Hi,
have a closer look at slogin.
ls -al on /usr/bin gives me:

lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 3 Sep 25 12:20 /usr/bin/slogin -> ssh

So, slogin is nothing, but a link to ssh. I can't make a difference wether you use slogin or ssh.
It would be inetersting to which...
Hey vic,
why are you so mad? Telling people to stay out of this won't help a single bit.
Now again (me risking making you even more mad), please have another close look at your httpd.conf. Maybe your 10.1 installation changed this file and you missed something?
How about...
