    Macster is carbonized!

The latest version, 5.5 I believe, does not run in classic on my system. It's clearly carbonized. Unfortunately it has been crashing on me when it tries to list the songs it finds.

    Cannot boot from OSX CD

True, but of course the next thing to try would be to disconnect the 2nd monitor and non-standard video cards at least during the install. I would then try putting them back in after the install. It's worth a shot if you ask me...

    Cannot boot from OSX CD

Did you start your installation by clicking on the INSTALL icon in OS9? You answer a question or two, it reboots the system and boots automatically off the CD

    Internet Explorer

To create a new user, open the finder, push the APPS button in the toolbar (apple + B to open the toolbar if it doesn't show) and then go into the UTILS folder. In there you'll see a MULTIPLE USERS icon. Click on it and follow the instructions. And by the way Yoc, I had DP4 and I ran IE...

    Deleting/uninstalling Omniweb

Yes, I use ssh because the passwords are sent in plain text over telnet, but I always call it telnet regardless of how I connect. Call it a bad habit! :) I don't really care how Apple handles this error message, as long as it is handled better than the way it is handled currently.

    Internet Explorer

I made a new user ID and logged in that way, it worked so it seems the preferences were corrupted. Try making a new ID (IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE that you give it ADMIN rights). Login using it. If iIE works, delete your old user ID, then go into the users folder and delete the folder of your...

    Startup Disk Problem

Actually, if you are in OS 9 and need to go back into OS X, run the SYSTEM DISK application that comes in the OS X CD and select your OS X partition/disk from there. The start up disk control panel will do nothing for you in this case, in fact, like you found out, it'll crash. I copied the...

    Internet Explorer

Actually mine just started doing the same. It was running fine since I installed it. Then suddently tonight, the window opens and shuts down just as quickly. G4, 450mhz, 256mb RAM, 45G drive all for OS X

    DVD Support???

Not yet! Probably won't be released as a download or anything. We'll have to wait for the final version.

    Deleting/uninstalling Omniweb

So I have to get into the terminal and chown or rm as root. While this is not a problem for me (even if I didn't think of checking on that, I will as soon as I get home since I didn't enable telnet access to my box just yet) I just hope that this will change in the near future. I wouldn't...

    Deleting/uninstalling Omniweb

Tim, thank you for taking the time to reply, but in all honestly, what you told me means absolutely nothing to me. Installer X. Uh? File priviledges? I installed it using my only account, the administrator account, and it is using this account that I am trying to drag it to the trash...

    Java and MacOS X

I'm having the same problem. First of all, make sure you go into your IE preferences and turn Java on (it's off by default). But even after doing that, I still haven't been able to see any of the java applets I have checked.

    terminal

"UNIX for dummies" is actually a pretty good book to get if you need basic help with UNIX commands. But be careful, the terminal is a very powerful, and dangerous, tool.

    Macster is carbonized!

What a surprise! I started Macster from OS X and well, it is carbonized! Woohoo! I just thought you'd like to know.

How should I set up my drives?

Just a quick note that I installed OS X with the set up I explained above and it worked beautifully. It installed without a hitch and OS X already knew where to find OS 9 when I launched a classic app.

    No problem here (G4 - 450)

Installed it without a problem. G4, 450mhz, 256 mb of RAM. Runs pretty well. I'm still a little lost and confuse, but it's normal, it's a brand new OS. I still remember moving from Win3.1 to Win95 after using 3.1 for so very long. It just takes time. Let me know if anyone has any...

    Deleting/uninstalling Omniweb

OK, so I play with Omniweb and I decide to get rid of it. In MacOS 9 you just drag the file to the trashcan. I can't do that in OS X. It tells me that the file cannot be put in the trash because it cannot be deleted. Wonderful. How do I delete/uninstall it?

How should I set up my drives?

I am in a similar situation. I have 2 drives, with OS 9 in the master drive , and I was going to dedicate all of the 2nd drive (slave) to OS X until I read the info in Apple's TIL. So this is what I did in preparation for OSXb: I opened the case, switched the jumpers in both hard drives...
