    10.1.4 and OmniWeb

There are still some java scripted pages that won't work right with OW. This number is steadily declining as OW improves.

    Record sound from app?

it still seems a little difficult. I tried Audiocorder ( I think some others can record in X... maybe Amadeus?) but as I am using a Griffin iMic I couldn't control the settings from X as there is no sound control panel for this yet. Anyway, yes you can record in X with some apps but it...

    Record sound from app?

Run an audio cord from sound out to a stereo system's record input. Then run a cord from the record out of the stereo to the sound in of your mac (assuming your Mac has one). Depending on the Mac you might be able to run a cord directly from sound out to sound in. If your Mac doesn't have...

Can't see CD burned by windoze

I don't remember the name of it but a few years ago I saw a windows CD format that I couldn't read on the Mac. I could read it with Virtual PC.

    HELP--Cannot delete files

If you are sure the files are not needed by OS X then remember the location, boot into OS 9 and delete the files.

    can YOU live without Microsoft?

I could live happily without any m$ apps. OW and Netscape can handle all the sites I've seen. Mariner can open excel files (as can another spread sheet whose name escapes me just now). Word docs can be viewed in AW or with Maclinkplus. Nisus is my preferred app if I need to make a...

OmniWeb equiv of IE's "Web Archive" feature?

iCab will do this vey nicely. So do a few other applications that are dedicated to this task. Check Version Tracker.

    new iBooks

Personally, I'd be happy with a faster, lower power G3 from IBM in an iBook. iBooks stress portability and convenience and longer battery life over raw computing power. It would be OK if the high end iBook went with a G4 but they should keep a fast, low power G3 as an option. When the G4 chip...

[HOWTO] - Use iTunes as an alarm clock

It won't work from Classic but if you boot OS 9 you can set the wake up time in the energy saver control panel. Once it is set it works even if you've changed to OS X. I suspect sleep and wake are hardware based (open firmware?) making them independent of the OS.

How Can I get my mac to start up on it's own?

I can confirm this with my Powerbook Pismo 500. I schedule daily audio recordings from the radio using OS 9. If I happen to be traveling I have seen the computer wake from sleep at the time specified in the OS 9 energy saver control panel. Unfortunately, this CP cannot be accessed from Classic.

    getting rid of the dock

Me too. I just made it as small as possible. It rarely causes trouble. On rare occasions I actually use it. At other times things accidentally go into the dock so I need it there to pull them back.

OS 9.2.2 to OS X 10.1 Networking Problem

It is bizarre that the G3 starts dialing. I would look at the network setup. To connect to OS X first turn on sharing in the OS X system preferences. From this page you will see the IP address of that machine. Write it down. No go to the G3. From the chooser select Appleshare then click the...

Typing along, and suddenly text is gone, can't undo

I've noticed something similar with Tex-Edit Plus but I've always been able to recover it with an undo. It seems like when I'm reaching for the shift key I hit something that moves the cursor up selecting everything from the end of the document to the new position one line up. The next key...

    OSX - A Slow Death?

Try MacJanitor.(available via version tracker) Apparently, OS X runs a set of daily, weekly and monthly maintainence routines. The daily routines run late at night. If you normally shut down or sleep at night these don't get run. MacJanitor tells OS X to run those actions immediately. I...

Hmm... Steve Jobs to keynote MW Tokyo

I have no complaints about the price drop. I think it was wonderful. My point is that the inside board specs haven't changed since October so it would be nice time for an upgrade. Previously the iBook specifications were improved about five months after the introduction. As I said, I don't...

Hmm... Steve Jobs to keynote MW Tokyo

ummm, far left side, about row 8. My point is that making the iBook bigger and heavier (not lighter) and not changing the processor speed wasn't much of an update. The price drop was nice, but the specifications haven't changed since last fall.

    Mac os 10.2

I suppose technically you could say that the graphics system in Lombard is an Apple product since I believe they integrate the ATI graphics chips at the board level. It is not like you could pull out a graphics card from a Lombard and pop in another.

OmniWeb SneakyPeeks are chronically slow.. Why???

Haven't noticed this. I have switched to make this my main browser since sp50. Now downloading sp57! I liked this so much I paid them the requested fee.

Hmm... Steve Jobs to keynote MW Tokyo

MWT is ten days away. It is a national holiday here so there should be good attendance. My speculation: -General introduction: 5 min. -iMac presentation. This is still very new. Not all models have been released yet. There will be a lot of time spent on this. Talking about features...
