    My Ibook Hates Osx!!!

You said you reinstalled X...how? If you could boot from the install CD you should be able to boot from a hard drive. Is your hard drive partitioned? Chris

    uninstalling 10.2.3

Definitely run the Disk Utility after each update and repair the privileges (First Aid tab). That should help. 10.2.3 is not slower than earlier systems. chris

    Parts for sale

Yoyo, was the spill near the U and Y keys? The backlight cable plugs into the logic board under there. A spill might have shorted something, but as I said, it might also be possible to clean the area inside. Chris

    Parts for sale

Yoyo, I don't think a spill on the keyboard area would ruin the backlight. The optical drive sits under the right half of the keyboard, and a spill on the left half would probably end up on the motherboard. I'd bet the iBook could be disassembled, cleaned, and returned to working condition...

    iPod Changes? Price? Size?

We all do! You can never have to much storage space. Five years ago, who'd have thought you needed 20 gigabytes?

Internal SCSI Hard Disk in a blue G3 works in 9 but not X

I hate to have to say this, but you might just want to give up on SCSI and get another IDE hard drive. They are so amazingly cheap, you could get an 80GB drive for under $100 and put it in beside your current 12GB drive. Chris

Un-installer program for Mac OSX 10.2.3

Sirtovin, I'm pretty sure you can just drag that trial Photoshop to the trash and be done with it. I don't know for sure about Virus Barrier. The only other places you'll often see files is in /Library/Preferences (rarely) or ~/Library/Preferences (most of the time). If you just leave...

Un-installer program for Mac OSX 10.2.3

On the Mac, you generally don't need special programs to uninstall software. All you do is drag the application to the trash. Poof! It's gone. The only reason Windows apps need uninstallers is because they sprinkle files all over your system, and mess with that awful beast--the registry. We...

    Can't run Gnome

All I can say is that my installation worked flawlessly after I downloaded and installed the Gnome-convenience package. Does that show up in Fink Commander? Once you have the packages, all you have to do is add 'exec gnome-session' exactly as you have done. Chris

    Can't run Gnome

Never mind. I discovered that I hadn't really installed all of the files. Today I installed the GNOME convenience package and it made sure I had the right packages. Now everything works. Chris

    Can't run Gnome

I just installed Fink 0.5. This is my first time installing any open source software on my iBook. I selected and installed the base software, Sawfish, and gimp using dselect. I can now run an Xwindow session and Gimp, but I don't get the Gnome desktop. dselect does indicate that some gnome...

    Hard disk activity indicator.

OK. I can see that there is a demand for some sort of hard drive activity indicator. <At least while I'm copying over the network I can look at my Router's activity lights to know that the file copy is still going... I WANT THIS FEATURE ON MY MAC!!! Am I REALLY asking for TOO much? >...

    Hard disk activity indicator.

I've never understood why PC users think it's important to know that the hard drive is working. If it's not, it should be obvious by the way the machine behaves. And when I suspect something is fishy and I really do want to know, I just put my ear near the hard drive. I've been able to hear the...
