    firewire 800

Hi, I've purchased the 2.0Ghz g5 and have a question concerning fire wire. The front has a firewire 400 connection. Is the back firewire 800 or 400 ? Apple's website seems vague or I'm over looking something. Thanks

    remote desktop question

I'm considering getting remote desktop to manage an xserve. Although it may sound silly, does remote desktop work across the internet? Someone told me that it is only for your local lan, and will not work on "remote" servers. Can someone confirm this? Thanks

    Spotlight & networked volumes...

Thinking about it, I have a feeling that it would be logical to index mounted drive for the following reasons. Apple sells SAN's and RAID solutions. Automatically mounted drives during boot, in my opinion, should be indexed.

    when auto-mounting smb shares

I've added all my smb shares on my linux server to automount on my mac during login. This was done by dragging the title at the top of the finder window... This works fine, however, is there a way to prevent the finder window from opening up once the share is mounted? I have 6 shares that...

    Mac Malware

Thats what I figured. It didn't sound like a virus that windows users are used to. The author of that article got excited too soon I think... Execute rm -rf / as root and thats bad too ;-)

    Mac Malware

I've came accross this article and they celebrate the fact that there is a virus available for the mac. http://www.technologyreview.com/articles/04/10/wo_hellweg102804.asp Is this an actual " virus " or a security hole?

    quanta editor question

I have installed quanta via fink (binary install). The app installed fine and runs fine too with the exception that the " * " and " + " sign do not work. Hitting shift+8 does not produce * character and hitting shift+= does not produce the + sign. Any ideas how to fix this? I've emailed...

    Network Key

I have tried using that, but it doesn't work. I've also reset the password for my wireless network from my mac and used that as the network key on windows and it rejects it. in windows networking, there is a phrase that you use to generate the key.

    Spotlight & networked volumes...

I've seen the demo how spotlight can find files on your disk very quickly, but does it apply to your mounted drives? If I mount a network drive, will it automatically search that as well? I have lots of storage servers and it would be great to find anything quickly on the entire lan.

    xserve and 10.3

I'm relieved from finally setting up the xserve (dual g4) for web developing. Not becuase it was difficult, but because those things are LOUD! I noticed that 10.3 came with both apache 1.3 and 2.x installed, but by default 1.3 was running. In the server admin, I have the option of starting...
