I have setup a wireless network using airport. I have a windows pc trying to conenct but it asks for the "Network Key". I've looked at the admin utility for airport but I can't locate the 40 bit network key.

How do I find the network key?

Thanks

I assume you configured your AirPort network with "40 bit WEP" security ? The key Windows is asking for is likely your "network password" in AirPort Admin Utility...

I have tried using that, but it doesn't work. I've also reset the password for my wireless network from my mac and used that as the network key on windows and it rejects it.

in windows networking, there is a phrase that you use to generate the key.

If you run the Airport Administrator Tool, and double click on your base station in the list, you'll get the "HEX Equivalent" of your password (third entry from the bottom I beleive). That is what you use as a password in your Windows settings.

Odd, there's no such entry in my AirPort Admin Utility v4.0.1 (for AirPort Express) in either Detailed or Summary modes.

WEP Key Maker

Get WEP Key Maker. This freeware app lets you create a reproducible hex code for a given password or phrase. Use the app to get your Hex key from WEP Key Maker; i.e. Apple -> 077495204A. You enter it with a $ in front like this>: $077495204A to make it a valid Hex password. Click OK.
