what ever happened to this Apple device?

Columbus was one of the names of the - then - ultra-secret iMac (other names: C1, Tailgate). Nice piece of retro-rumor!

    Which Mac Mag?

Applicando is definitely the best Mac magazine in Italy... if you don't care about old demos and updates on the CDs. My two €cents.

    Uh Oh. MS acquiring Connectix...

I would say I expect the worst FROM VPC... I think they ARE smart, so I'm afraid we'll soon see Virtual Mac on PC: run Mac OS X and all those shiny Mac apps on your 3.0 Ghz Pentium 4 at the same speed you have now (with a dual processor G4) and save $$$$$$$... THIS could kill Apple.

Microsoft to tweak Office for Macs

No it doesn't. Word X is possibly better than Word XP, PowerPoint X is certainly better than PowerPoint XP, but Entourage is worst than Outlook (no Exchange, as already said) and Excel X is definitely poorer than Excel XP. And there is no Access X. And Office X has never been translated into...

    Panther 10.3 Question?

I really hope it will be free. And at the same time, I really hope Apple will quit seeding new OSes like this... I mean, take it from an IT administrator point of view: here where I work there are 80 Macs, equally divided between 8.1, 8.5.1, 8.6, 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, 9.2.2... they haven't upgraded a...

    why Apple needs better advertising...

Better advertising, like... "The laptop of choice of professional graphic artists, musicians, photographers and video editors... now starting at 1199,00 € (and going all the way up to 5023,00 €)" with a nice slideshow of iBooks and PowerBooks, aired during tech oriented shows. :) At...

    New PowerMacs!

The point was that Apple Mktg people here didn't even think to (or weren't allowed to) change the Office X part of the promotional leaflet: I know it is all Microsoft responsability.

    New PowerMacs!

Parts that have to be imported and distributed, too. (AMD has a factory in Germany, but I've never heard Intel has a production facility in the UE. If you look at the premium components, all of them are imported.) And last time I looked, PowerMacs were the last Macs assembled in Ireland (an UE...

    New PowerMacs!

Some days ago I saw the offering for a Giove PC (a well esteemed brand here in Italy, been around for years): P4 3.06 HT 533 Mhz bus with 512 MB of 333 Mhz DDR 120 GB HD (up to four inside) Pioneer A04 DVD-R 4x, DVD-RW 2x ecc (SuperDrive) ATI Radeon 9700 Pro SoundBlaster Audigy 2 2 x...

    Question for the audio guru's!

    >>If I knew it was copy-protected, I would have not purchased this CD GOOD POINT. Return the CD, send a complaint e-mail to the music label (asking them why they decided to let us out of their music) and buy another one.

    Silence of the Macs

The new iBooks (with the Radeon 7500) have a fan that kicks in seldom, but when it does, it IS loud. Of course, if you're no big fan of first person shooters with extremely high CPU and GPU needs, you could never hear it. The iMac is instead extremely silent, even the 17"/GF4 version. No test...

    New powermacs?

Wait. At least until a true DDR front-side bus is there (so you can justify to yourself the steep price of DDR RAM).

Challenge: Find a name for the brand new PowerPC

From a marketing point of view, I think they'll skip a generation and call it G6

    iBook G4?

My original 500 Mhz iBook was absolutely quiet, no fan, no HD crunching, no DVD spinning noise. My next iBook, 600Mhz on a 100 Mhz mb, was actually a little bit noiser, 'cause the fan kicked in while playing highly demanding games... but it was a quiet fan, anyway. My brand new 800 Mhz iBook...

    Delayed Interface Sounds?

Always happens to my iBook 600Mhz. When I happened to use a 700Mhz eMac, it also happened, while the delay wasn't relevant on a 867DP PowerMac. It is annoying, so I was thinking about disabling the sounds (anyway they are a shame vs. OS 9 appearance sounds, and as far as I know they're not...

    ST Micro to buy Moto?

In last week's sunday supplement (Sette) to the most read italian newspaper (il Corriere della Sera) there was an interview to Pasquale Pistorio, CEO of ST Microelectronics. During the interview Pistorio, who has worked from 1967 to 1980 in Motorola USA - microelectronics division, has stated...

    Office v.X SR1 and Jaguar

Just an update: I have recovered my Thesaurus. Apparently, the Jag update had reset Word prefs to "default", so that Word was trying to use the first dictionary around, which happened to be 'czech' (wich wasn't installed). Set the language back to Italian and now the funny program works again...

    Office v.X SR1 and Jaguar

I guessed it had to do with creator codes, but what really amazes me is that Office 98 programs have taken the Office X apps icons. And that the problem happened after the 10.2 upgrade, and not before (under 10.1). I wonder if anything has been changed in OS 9 after I put a Jaguar in my...

    Office v.X SR1 and Jaguar

This is my setup: 600 Mhz iBook, 20 GB HD, OS 9.2.2 and OS X on the same drive (no partitions). Two weeks ago I upgraded my OS X System from 10.1.5 to 10.2, then run the latest Security update, then the 10.2.1 update, then run Disk Utility to check and solve permission problems. All seemed OK...
