    Changing Xcode compiler

You have to do a bit of custom work to do this, but it can be done. In fact, I did something very much like this for TIGCC, which is a custom GCC compiler aimed at producing software for the 68k TI calculators (89, 92+, Voyage). The trick is that you have to create an external target and write...

The Bible (Split from "The Bible on your iPod"

Yes, this is a situation where all sides should honestly agree to disagree. One of my friends who is a fairly devout Christian (which sect, I never bothered to ask) who doesn't even agree with a lot of "Christian" attitudes towards other religions. He believes that it is his duty to introduce...

    Pismo Display

Don't recommend it. I don't see why you can't take the pane out and replace it, but I don't know what all has changed. My recommendation is that if you want to pull an LCD out of the housing and put it into the Pismo's display housing, use a Lombard display for it as they are much closer in...

why is there a USB port and a PS2?

Near the release of the PS2 it had 3 ports in the little blue section on the front: 2 USB ports, and 1 4-pin Firewire/iLink port. They removed it with the 50001 series.

Lack of RAM on my iBook ?'s

I have RAM coming today for my 'new' Pismo (it is like new, treated quite well), mostly to get it up high enough to run MacOS X. The guy left 64MB in the system and 10.3 refuses to boot at all without at least 128MB installed. Still, 320MB is enough for me. The RAM only helps out to a point, by...

Lack of RAM on my iBook ?'s

Definitely, unless it is more that your system supports and starts glitching like the G3 Powerbooks tend to do when you put a lot of RAM in. Or, there is too much if you cannot afford it all. :)

    Pismo External Speaker Noise

Hmm, quite correct on the possible solution and the lack of static for an out-of-phase signal. On the other hand, the speakers are fine, and as I said in the edit: the noise only appears about 2-3 seconds after the last sound has been played. The noise disappears once a sound plays, and then...

    Pismo External Speaker Noise

I recently acquired a Pismo that was dead for quite a few months. I managed revive it without having to replace the logic board, sound board, power board or processor, which is good news. Here is the bad/annoying part of the machine: If I plug in external speakers, I get a great deal of...

Booting a Pismo from an external drive

Well, I don't see why you can't... and you won't know if you don't try. If you have another firewire capable system, you can use firewire target mode on the Pismo to reformat the drive as well. I would recommend replacing the Pismo DVD drive when you get the chance. If you don't plan on or...

    10.3.5 (Complete Thread)

It varies because it is a percentage. 20% of 2000$ is more than 20% of 1000$. The ADC hardware discount is ~20% on the item, and I have not seen the percentage vary (the difference between the programs is the number of ADC hardware discounts you get per year, or in the case of students, one...

    10.3.5 (Complete Thread)

Actually, the student discount is 20%, just like the other hardware discounts. The only catch is that a student can only use it once.

Is Tiger 10.4 only available for G4s?

Actually, the Pismo and the iceBooks are the new bottom-end laptop models that will run Tiger. For Panther it was the Lombard and Clamshell iBook. For Jaguar/Puma/Cheetah, it was the Wallstreet. I don't see Apple changing the parts of the requirements that say: G3, G4, G5 processor, built-in...

    10.3.5 (Complete Thread)

Actually, student members don't get seeds. We are effectively Mailing Members with a couple extra benefits: getting OS updates when they are publically released on CD, a single-use hardware discount.

    iPod Development?

If you read the second post, it is an April Fool's joke (improperly timed, and probably in bad taste).

how much did u save on refurbished deals?

My aging (ha!) 8600 is still running and was a refurb. I have had a couple parts fail, but they weren't Apple's.

    iPod Development?

Someone submitted an article to MacTech for last month's magazine. This one was particularly interesting, as the author had found out how the 3G iPods load software and run the little nifty apps like Notes, the games and so on. It is actually very straight-forward (as long as you know SNOBOL and...

    Ideas on cause of errors?

Yes, I know what the CUDA button is, how to use it, and what it does. I have had plenty of time to learn this machine, just don't have experience troubleshooting a problem this severe, and could have rendered me without a desktop machine (which did a lot of serving and grunt work) for over 8...

    Ideas on cause of errors?

Well, I was premature... I cannot get a stable system with any sort of RAM configuration. I don't know if all RAM decided to die, or the mobo is going bad (as the problems change based on the RAM currently). Looks like I get to haul out the old mobo and revert this thing to the old 8600/300...

    FT or FS: Lombard G3

333$ is just as insane considering the *recent* upgrades and the cost in those. I can tell you right now that the DVD/CD-RW drive, the battery, HD and RAM cost more than that offer, if you bought them RIGHT NOW.
