    Proteus question....

Actually, Proteus have no problems assigning aliases to your friends (and foes! :)), but IIRC you cannot assign the aliases before you have added them to your list. Then you can edit their names, and type in whatever you want :)

    10.2 unstable

Your mail problems are probably due to 3rd party plugins or modifications to the original Mail.app. Have you installed GPGMail for instance? Check the docs for how to remove it, or replace it with the new "for jaguar" GPGMail. Application unstability is usually caused by haxies which aint...

Getting TAB to display possible commands in terminal under jaguar

After moving to jaguar, the tcsh shell have been somewhat modified, well, the terminal application in general I guess, but at least some portions of the tcsh startup. One thing I would like to get back was the ability to type a partial folder/command, and then press TAB twice to get up a list...

    Frequent kernel panics in 10.2 on PBG4 400 - any thoughts ?

Looks like the Apple PMU driver is causing you these troubles. Have you any equipment connected to your machine through FW/USB? Try to disconnect them for a while to see if that helps, especially speakers or the likes. Also, what kind of upgrade to 10.2 did you do? I recommend doing a backup...

    changeing icons back to normal?

Rickys method should work. But if its a stubborn folder/program, try logging out and then back in, and see if that helps.

    Automounting Samba shares in jaguar

Is it possible to automount Samba shares in Jaguar? So that they pop up whenever I do a reboot? And is it possible to rename the mountpoints for the shares to whatever I want to call them?

Best AGP card - ATI 9700 or Geforce 4 Ti?

I am wondering if I should upgrade my graphics card to either of these. Which one is the best? I am going to use them in a dual monitor (ADC+DVI) configuration - how does that affect the 3D performance of these cards?

[HOWTO] - Speed up DNS lookups in OSX

I am certainly no expert on this, but it looks to me like if some other service is using port 53, so that bind cannot take claim of it...

Problem with SoundSticks under 10.1

Thats right. Do NOT unplug&replug those sticks, unless you want to see what a kernel panic looks like... AFAIK this is due to a bug in the USBAudio driver, which in fact lists as a beta driver in the kernel panic( yup, i've tried unplug... ). There has been some talk about this beeing...

[HOWTO] - Speed up DNS lookups in OSX

This is almost correct - its just that every DNS server in the listing above needs to be separated with semicolon, even if you just use one forwarder. I fought with this for quite some time before I saw the error. :) Thanks for an otherwise very good walkthrough.

After logging on from screen sleep, nothing works!

Unfortunately, I have installed the network update! What now? Is it possible to re-install those updates in any way, will that help?

After logging on from screen sleep, nothing works!

This morning I went to my mac to read some mail before leaving for work. I typed in my password and my last work came up. Everything looked normal. Then I tried to switch to Mail.app. But no icons came up (I use autohide on my Dock). I tried alt-command-esc to get to the task list. Nothing! I...

I need a vector based drawing program

Actually, OmniGraffle comes free with OS X bought on new PowerMacs (its included and even allow updates downloaded from OmniGroup patched on top of it), so if you are as lucky as I am, you allready have it! Did I mention that OmniGraffle totally rules?!? :) -e

OSX and Windows(NT) networking problems and questions...

Homer, are you sure you are using the latest version of Sharity? I have tried it now for a good week, and not a single trouble so far. With the builtin client I have share connection that is any good for 4-5 hours use, then even MP3 playback starts to stutter! -e

OSX and Windows(NT) networking problems and questions...

I had lots of problems with SMB shares going dog-slow on me all the time, until I installed Sharity. Sharity is freeware and uses another SMB client than the one accompanying OS X. It also gives you the possibility to browse a windows network (using the Network symbol in your finder and below)...

Cycling windows of the same app.

Hmm, I see now that its the "`" char you were referring to, not "'". The char left of 1 on my keyboard is "'", while "`" is found by pressing shift and the char left of backspace, then it comes up in yellow, for "bundling" with another char, eg. to create ì, ù etc. That might be what...
