Time Machine on M1 Ventura not recognizing External HD to back up

The external mounts just fine. I use it all day long for my work files. But when I launch Time machine, it doesn't back the external up. Let alone even recognize that it's there.

Time Machine on M1 Ventura not recognizing External HD to back up

Hey Cheryl - the Time machine volume is created no problem and I can back up the startup volume. It just doesn't recognize my work drives on a partitioned USB 3 drive. Maybe I'll contact OWC and see how the drive was formatted out of their plant to make it basically plug n play for Mac and Windows.

Time Machine on M1 Ventura not recognizing External HD to back up

Howdy - I have a 2020 Mac Mini M1 Ventura 13.4.1, connected to a partitioned 2TB OWC miniStack USB 3 hard drive. Partitioned into 2-1TB partitions. Formatted as Journaled HFS+, GPT. Nowhere in the documentation does Apple say what format Time Machine needs for external USB 3 hard drives...

Changing Apple ID on M1 Mini

Okay, that was easy. I had to go to AppleID and created the new ID there, then I could log in from the M1. What a concept - something easy with Apple! As it should be! Macs and iPhones are so easy, why is support like pulling teeth.

Changing Apple ID on M1 Mini

Of course, I’ve tried so many times to make this work, I’m told that I’ve exceeded the number of times to assign an Apple ID and need to contact Apple Support. Sheessh!

Changing Apple ID on M1 Mini

That’s it? Apple’s explanation is like a book. As always, thanks Cheryl!

Changing Apple ID on M1 Mini

Hey all - I had a Mini with M1 chip followed up with an M2. Both were under my Apple ID. I have now sold the M1 to the company I work for. I've been trying to change the Apple ID on the M1 to the company ID but it then changes my M2 and my iPhones, laptops, everything that I had under my Apple...

Any upgrade issues from Monterey to Ventura?

Installed it tonight and I’ll see what the updated quirky things are going to be this time around. Thanks

Any upgrade issues from Monterey to Ventura?

I have my Mac Mini M1 running Monterey and always have concerns upgrading to a new name. I'm primarily a designer and an Adobe user. The speed of the M1 while working 3D in Dimensions is impressive (I know, not a lot of love for Adobe lately). But my question - are there any issues with Ventura...

Monterey 12.6 - How do I stop from getting logged off the network?

I must not be looking in the right place. Just got my 2020 Mac mini with the M1 and the SSD with 250 gigs. First new Mac I've had in 10 years! Dang, I never knew a Mac could start up so quickly. My question is, when the system goes to sleep after 15 minutes, it's shutting down the network...

New M1 Mini connecting to older MacPro to access HD's

Okay. Say I wasn’t going to use the macpro other than as, basically a file server. It’s a ten year old MacPro on El Capitan.

New M1 Mini connecting to older MacPro to access HD's

Thanks for the reply, I guess what I’m really asking is will there be any issues connecting the new Mini to the older MacPro via Ethernet? Can I direct connect the 2 or does it have to go through a hub?

New M1 Mini connecting to older MacPro to access HD's

Hey all - I am setting up to buy a new Mac Mini with the M1. All of my work is on my MacPro with 3 internal drives. Will there be an issue connecting the Mini to the MacPro so that I can use the files on those drives? I'll probably need some type of switch or hub between the 2? Thanks for the help!

    Upgrading from iPad 9.7 Verizon

Well, we just picked up a 2021 iPad 10.2 256 with 4gb at, of all places, Target. Just WiFi. With cellular was another $150. The Apple store had the same one for $5 more and we had to drive an hour to get it. So I think we got a good deal. I’ll set up our iPhones for hotspot if the iPad ever...

    Upgrading from iPad 9.7 Verizon

Let me ask a ‘for instance’. We both always have our iPhones. Could we not use the iPhone as a hotspot that the iPad could use with its WiFi?

    Upgrading from iPad 9.7 Verizon

The one she has now is WiFi but it’s got a Verizon SIM card. So you’re saying if we buy an unlocked WiFi model, it won’t get cell? Getting away from Verizon I guess isn’t that big an issue but it is $25 a month. We can buy an unlocked version and still go to a Verizon store to have it ported...

    Upgrading from iPad 9.7 Verizon

Cheryl - I think I like what you’re saying. As long as I already have WiFi in the house, there is no need for me to go through Verizon with an actual phone number. The iPad is never used for calls, messaging, etc. Am I on the same page?

    Upgrading from iPad 9.7 Verizon

Hey Cheryl - thanks for the reply. I'm just curious how easy it it to port a new iPad to an existing Verizon account. I guess my next step is to contact the support team at Verizon.
