    Desktop not loading at all

I can't load anything. The machine boots to the screens shown in the thumbnail above, and then... nothing. Nada. No login options, no desktop. And Safe Mode doesn't load properly. Something is seriously wrong here....

    Desktop not loading at all

Just tried zapping the PRAM (?) (Opt-Alt-P-R on startup?), waited for 4 chimes and still the same. Seriously thinking about reformatting the HD and starting all over again.

    Desktop not loading at all

I've tried everything listed on http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/help/2/#7, but none of that worked. I've run the Apple Hardware Test CD, that showed no fault found. Basically, my G4 (running 10.2.8) starts up fine then freezes when it gets to one screen being Aqua (the normal desktop)...

iPhoto is cr*p. Can I delete it?

Hmmm. Maybe I should give it another chance. But let's say I do give it another chance, and still decide it's a pants, what's the process for removing it and all of it's cretinous sub-folders?

System Prefs: click "Display" and it crashes

OK... I tried creating another user account, but System Preferences crashed whilst I was doing it. I had to "Force Quit" it. I then restarted System Prefs and double clicked "User Accounts". It froze on the "Loading Users" screen. Again, I force quit it and then clicked into Finder and "log...

iPhoto is cr*p. Can I delete it?

It is with some remorse that I must admit that if there's one thing that my PC does better than my G4, it's handle my Fujifilm Finepix S5500. Importing using the Fuji supplied software- forget it. So I tried iPhoto, which is... WORSE!!! What I want to be able to do is plug the camera in...

System Prefs: click "Display" and it crashes

OSX10.2.8, Dual Screens (Apple Flat Panel). Having a bit of a wierd problem, which started about a week ago. I can't recall what I did that might have made "displays" unstable. Everything else on System Prefs works fine. When I click on "Displays", I get "The Application System Preferences...

    Final Cut Pro Forum

ajmax, I'd be interested to know what you think of those forums if you've been browsing other forums. The whole reason I got this Mac I'm using now is to use Final Cut Pro.

External HD compatible with PC and G4

Can you transfer files between the ntfs and hfs+ partitions on either computer? My reasons for getting the external HD is to transfer and work with data on both computers. Let me get this straight- FAT32 can be used on XP and OSX, but ntfs won't work on OSX and hfs+ won't work on XP. Is that...

External HD compatible with PC and G4

Hmmm... building my own HD sounds a bit scary. What about if I get a 100GB drive and format it FAT32 with 3 x 32GB partitions? How will that work?

External HD compatible with PC and G4

I'm thinking about getting an external HD that I can use on both my PC, running XP, and on my G4 running OSX 10.2.8. Two questions really: (1) anyone got any recommendations? (I was thinking about a LaCie 160GB Extreme II triple). (2) how can I check which firewire (400 or 800) my G4...

The case of the missing pointer

Nope, I've definately got the screens set up right- i.e., the one on the left is supposed to be on the left and the one on the right is supposed to be on the right. Anyway, I managed to get the system prefs up, jiggled about with the mouse settings and restarted the machine... all works fine...

The case of the missing pointer

This is very wierd: I see my mouse pointer fine on one screen but it completely disappears when I move it to the other screen. The even wierder thing is that the mouse actually works fine on both screens. What can possibly cause this?

    Let's talk soundcards

Oh, one more thing. Be aware you can't plug any old input into the Mic socket: you need to check things like impedance and v levels. Basically, mic sockets are set up for mics. If you want to put phono inputs (ie that coming out of a CD player) into your G4, you will need a suitably equipped...

    Let's talk soundcards

On the back of the G4, top to bottom you have: headphones, mic, network, firewire, firewire, usb. Mic second one down. Glad to help someone at last... I'm normally the one asking the other guys for help!!!

    USB and dual screens

No, I can turn the computer off completely normally. I didn't realise that the screen USB ports were there only if absolutely necessary: I thought they were completely functional USB ports, like any other. The only reason I haven't plugged anything into the tower is because the tower is quite...

    USB and dual screens

OSX 10.2.8 1.5 GB memory (512 SDRAM x 3) Dual 1GHz PowerPC G4 Dual TFT monitors Microsoft Intellipoint Mouse I have the keyboard and the mouse plugged into one of the TFT monitors (the master one). I'd like to be able to plug my USB memory stick into the keyboard, instead of plugging into...

    Profile and signature

I'm probably being very dim, but where is the option to include my signature (basically my Mac setup) whenever I post?

    Let's talk soundcards

LOL! Yes, sorry, just realised the oxymoron there. Mind you, whenever I sample my own CDs, I sample them at 192 & 44kHz. File size is twice as big, but who gives a damn? That's what Maxtors are for!!! Having examined the costs, I figure that my extra soundcard setup will have to wait. I'm...

    Fonts all over the place!

I like my fonts. The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned! Question is, where is the best place to put new fonts when running 10.2.8? So far, on my HD, I have found fonts in the following places: HD/Library/Fonts (most extensive directory on the HD) HD/System/Library/Fonts (a few...
