You can run Tiger on that machine, albeit without the graphic bells and whistles (unless you upgrade the video card.) And 10.4.11 comes with Safari 3, whereas Panther only supports Safari 2. Just make sure you have enough RAM in it, at least half a gig, preferably more.

Cheekymac, doesn't your dad have a G4 Tower, have you tried out the monitor on his machine? Still I can't figure out why the keyboard and mouse wouldn't be receiving power on startup, maybe the tower got jostled in transit and some cable or card inside became dislodged. Dunno how easy it is...

Every time I launch a streaming station, a new copy is generated as a track in my iTunes Music Library. Is there any way to keep that from happening? (I really hate having streaming stations showing up in Party Shuffle!) It's a real pain, having to continually delete streaming tracks...

colindunn, MCE will install a new 120 or 160GB HD for $269 or $299. Not cheap, but less than $500 and beats shelling out for a new machine. Of course if you wanna try doing it yourself, good luck! :)

AFAIK only the 15" MBP is LED. Wonder when they'll start making them in 17".

MCE has a great line of both external and internal Mac drive upgrades, all guaranteed bootable. You could actually put a new dual layer DVD burner in there for only $99.

The only thing I can think of is that either you might have damaged the Book somehow when you took it apart, or maybe the new HD is not set to Master, if that is possible. Does the old HD still boot?

Ah, from your title, = text way too small!, I got the impression that small text size was your real problem. I agree, high resolution does make text too small in the menus. It's for that reason I've held off buying a new Mac: I'm still waiting for OS X to offer resolution independence.
