Hmm, does that eject thingy apply to both USB and MacBook keyboards? 'Cause on my system F12 is the default Eject. It has always had a short delay, which is great, because that way the same key can be programed for an addition function, such as StartScreensaver. Haven't installed it yet...

Have you closed the lock after making the changes? (Not that OS X seems to respect closed locks...)

Is there a closed lock in the lower left corner of the Date & Time preference pane?

Make sure you have selected OS X as your Startup Disk from System Preferences. Once you are sure you don't need anything from Previous System, by all means go and trash it.

Dunno if this will address your problem, but in System Preferences/International/Formats you can select your Region.

Well with only 128 MB RAM I would not expect X11 to load. Wait until you get your new chips, you shouldn't have any problems then.

Ashleigh, if it turns out you really do need a new optical drive to boot your Mac, MCE offers one for $59. Dunno whether they ship to the UK, but I would bet they do. Anyway you can ask them if so and how long it would take, they have pretty decent customer service. Their American dealers do...

Guess a good way to check would be to try the disk in someone else's Mac. If it's bad, Apple should exchange it.

Try de-selecting the Drive Type, just enter your Mac model at xlr8. There are over a hundred reviews. Or just enter your optical drive model. BTW, have you examined the disc for scratches/figerprints?

Think you may need a lot more RAM to run Tiger than what you say you have. Also, are you sure your new drive is bootable on a Mac? For more information, a good place to look is xlr8yourmac.com.

Is it the Input or Output volume with which you are having trouble? Because the Input level will always self-adjust if you have a built-in microphone, so it seems.
