Has anyone made an Airport Extreme controller yet?

How do I facilitate using Airport Express with a dual G5 2.5ghz, and a Bose Lifestyle sound system? I assume that something like a Pioneer amp, accepting S/PDIF input is all I'd need. To control volume and selection remotely, it sounds as though this Salling Clicker you mention is the way to...

    airport card problem (urgent)!!!

I had the same sort of problem several times. The network is simply not recognized. I've done a couple of things that have brought it back. One, connect your ethernet directly into the PC, establish an internet connection. Then, reconnect the ethernet to the Airport base station, and try...

    Airport Extreme and Win 98

I just replaced a D-Link DI-713P Wireless 802.11b router with an APEBS. The D-Link unit worked fine on my Win XP and a Win 98 machines, but the APEBS does not. Is there a description (pretty fundamental, I hope) for the setup and configuration of Win 98 the the Airport Extreme? I saw Heath...

    File type/application associations

I recently installed Photoshop CS on 10.3, and when I double-click an image file (.jpg, .tif, crw), the image now opens in ImageReady. This is not my preference, but I'm not finding the trick to re-associate these files with Photoshop. It's gotta be simple, but I'm stumped. Anyone able to...

    Panther kills external FW drives

I believe the 922 chip-set is only on the 800 mb/sec FireWire external drives, so if you are using the standard 400 mb/sec units, you've got the 911.

    Panther kills external FW drives

Just saw a notice that Panther wipes out data on external FireWire drives using the Oxford 922 bridge chip-set. That appears to be only on the FW 800 drives. Apparently, the 911 chip-set is okay. Anyone have more on this?

We need a new thread on Panther bugs

Yep. Mea culpa. Thanks for the pointer. I'm reluctant to put 10.3 on my machine. I do not like problems like printer or scanner drivers that no longer work. It's been costly to me in the past, and I really don't want to be burned again.

Panther Bugs and Incompatibilities (Post here)

It might be helpful in analyzing bugs to note whether or not a pre-release version of Panther had been installed on the problem machine.

We need a new thread on Panther bugs

That about says it. How about some feedback on the problems with compatibility we find while using 10.3?

    DDR400 Memory

It makes sense to go with the 512's. The price of 1GB and larger DDR memory will undoubtedly come down in the next year or so. I've got 2 GB in this old Dual G4 450, and it seems I can run as many apps as I want, with no slow-down. I'd like at least the same in the G5. Thanks for the sanity...

    DDR400 Memory

As I prepare myself for the monetary shock of buying a new Dual G5, I realize that the 512MB of RAM that comes with the machine is inadequate. The prices Apple offers for RAM upgrades are not even in the realm of the possible. Does anyone know of the best source for DDR400 PC3200 1GB modules...

    Cinema Tools 2.0 documentation?

I know that Cinema Tools 1.0 had a users manual. Now that 2.0 is part of the FCP 4 package, how does one get info on using the program? I cannot find diddley in the FCP manuals, so, I must be missing something....right? Where the heck is the manual? Thanks, Pish

    Graphic card adapters

For what it's worth...the Radeon 9000 works just fine in an AGP equipped G4, including the Dual 450. It installed flawlessly, and does just fine.

    Graphic card adapters

Thanks for the advice on the adapters. They seem pretty expensive when compared to simply purchasing a new card. The Radeon 9000, with 64mb can be had for less than $150. The question is, will it run in a Dual 450? Anyone know? Thanks again, Pish

    Graphic card adapters

I'm trying to keep my Dual 450 alive and sufficient to the task for the next few months, until I can't help myself on the G5. To do that I need an adapter for an ATI Radeon Card (don't know the model, but it's 32mb with a serial and a non-Cinema Display connector). I need to make it work with...

[HOW TO] Clone OS X machine over a network

I'm hoping that does the job, because it would be very difficult to rebuild my old G4 system on the new G5 otherwise. Too many upgraded apps...too many little tweaks that I've built in over the years...much better to just take a picture and make it work on the new machine. Someone has to...

[HOW TO] Clone OS X machine over a network

Yep-Carbon Copy Cloner does, indeed, create a great bootable drive FOR THE MACHINE FROM WHICH THE BOOTDRIVE WAS CLONED. The big question is, will that cloned bootdrive (which worked fine on the original machine) also work on the new G5, or are there boot routines that will confuse the boot...

[HOW TO] Clone OS X machine over a network

Does anyone have a functional method to clone a boot drive, from a G4, and transfer the image to a G5? Like most of us, I gotta have a dual G5, but I'm really concerned with all the apps that I'll have to set up again on the new machine. I don't think I'll keep the old G4, so a LAN isn't...

Apple Store shows a G5 ad

It sure could be intentionally leaked as a teaser, but I doubt it. Why 3 USB2 ports? PPC chip? Here's a post about from the Yahoo news this morning; http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=77&ncid=77&e=2&u=/mc/20030620/tc_mc/applereportedlypostsg5specsonwebsite
