    Diagnosing PowerMac G5 failures

Got new CPUs in for the 2.7, mounted them on 2.0 heatsinks to test before rebuilding the LCS. The system will power on and spin the fans (which it did not do before), but has no chime or any sign of life from USB hardware, or any display. Tried resetting the SMU, unplugging, replacing clock...

MacBook Pro Logic Board replacement options.

Based on what I've seen, I could pick up a logic board on eBay for around $500. There's no water damage on the machine, but I would have thought the part alone from Apple would be ~$1000. Is there a flat-rate service for a machine like this out of AppleCare? Thanks.

MacBook Pro Logic Board replacement options.

A friend has a MacBook Pro (Mid 2009, A1286, 3.06 C2D) that is in need of a new logic board. It will intermittently freeze, not boot up, not recognize RAM, and once did the 3-beep ram failure signal (Obviously, have tried swapping the RAM, even got a new battery). I found a replacement identical...

    Screen Woes!

There's a great deal of discussion on this problem at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1627678?threadID=1627678 and https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1423301?start=675&tstart=0 Probably the most helpful post is on the first page of the first link, but seems to be a hardware issue of some...

    Diagnosing PowerMac G5 failures

Hello all, I recently acquired two G5's, a 2.0 DP and 2.7 DP PCI-X PowerMac. Both were DOA, after inspecting both PSUs and reseating components the 2.0 started working, no luck with the 2.7. When I plug the 2.7 in, the power light flashes and I hear a click. The same thing happens when I press...

Replacing crashed hard drive in iMac, can't get OS X, stuck, please help

Master/slave configurations are only relevant on IDE/ATA devices, as SATA devices can only have 1 device per cable. As long as you replaced the head sensor it should be OK. As for the optical drive, it's just one cable I believe, so it's probably OK unless it's at some half-connected state...

Replacing crashed hard drive in iMac, can't get OS X, stuck, please help

Shouldn't have to do anything to the drive if it is working/connected correctly. Try the troubleshooting steps here; http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 The question mark means that it didn't find a boot source. For some reason it isn't reading the media or the drive isn't working correctly, so...

Replacing crashed hard drive in iMac, can't get OS X, stuck, please help

I missed that last part - no, TDM will not fix that. Try the troubleshooting steps here; http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1587 If that doesn't work, you might want to take a peak inside to make sure everything is properly seated and connected. iFixit has nice guides as far as a reference.

    IBook g4 not working - date 1969

A dead PRAM battery would cause this, which is the small battery inside the computer. It's odd that you're still having problems after you change the date, though. Try starting in Safe Mode; http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455

Is 3-Year AppleCare Protection Plan Worth It?

I had an iMac G5 that had a logic board failure, luckily it was under AppleCare and was covered. It would have cost $1000 to repair out of warranty, so I consider it a good investment. It's also nice that they can do things in-store. I had a failure of a SuperDrive on my MBP and they were able...

Resetting a computer with RAID card

The basic raid setups are striped, mirrored and concatenated. Striped (RAID 0) increases performance by spreading data across drives. (If one drives fails, you lose all your data) Mirrored (RAID 1) increases redundancy by cloning a drive, so that if one drive fails, you still have a working...

    Terrible wifi problems...

Do your iPhone or iPod touch have issues on the network as well? If they do, then the router is likely to blame. If not, could be that your airport card is going bad, or has corrupt settings. Testing on Public WiFi would be a good way to see if the airport card is working correctly as well. Re...

Wireless connection to My Book World

One thing you could try is going into your "sharing" preferences then enable internet sharing from your USB modem to the ethernet port. I think the issue is that it's just selecting the working network connection, but with sharing the connections should still be able to come through.

Video Encoding Speed in MacBook Pro

Make sure you have your high-end graphics enabled if applicable. I'm not sure if you'll have the option on your computer, but you can find our by going to System Preferences -> Energy Saver and check "Higher Performance" for graphics. The graphics card is soldered to the motherboard, so your...

Mail not counting unread messages properly

Yes, is there any way to fix this? I also have an exchange account, and "read" messages are counted immediately. On Mail, junk mail and regular mail stay unread for a few minutes after being read.

    OS X Startup Disc Full?

You can use a program such as carbon copy cloner (http://www.bombich.com/) to migrate to a new drive. Depending on your setup, you might just want to get an external drive. iTunes will work with the library on an external drive.

Mine can get very hot, especially if I am using the faster graphics and charging. It stays pretty cool if I enable only the small graphics card (but it's slower..).

    iMac wireless internet lost

What is your network configuration? If you could provide details about the wireless setup it may help. You should try to restart the router and verify the settings in case, but since the laptop works this may not help. As far as resetting the airport, you should try to create a new location...

    I Pod touch

Nope, you can access the App Store from iTunes - just go to the iTunes store then look for the App Store tab. Once you've downloaded the apps you want, you can plug in your iPod then sync the apps from the Applications tab on the iPod page.
