    I wish...

I have absolutly know idea why Apple would not include window shading in OSX. May jobs wanted to make everyone look at his cool genie effect. For people coming to OSX via UNIX and for OS9 users, it is a sorely missed feature. -jdog

    FreeBSD

OSX is basically FreeBSD with a different kernel. That means anything that runs on FreeBSD (or any unix for that matter) would, theoretically be able to run on OSX Server. The exception being apps that are based on some sort of GUI (normally x-windows). Check out...

    September

Now they are going to have the vulcan be the hot girl on the show. The part is being played by Jolene Blalock, you can see her an maximonline.com. I suspect there will be borg, wasn't there a movie where the Next Generation crew had to go back to keep the borg from stopping that guy who...

    Tricks the Dock CAN'T do

From what I've read, you can still choose to have the airport monitor in the dock if you like, they are giving you the choice. If you have a few apps opened and minimized, the dock can get pretty crowded, so it is nice to get the non-essentials out of the way. -jdog

My official title is Firmware Engineer Intern. I help help out my group with things like setting up new computers, we have rewired our lab a couple times and I did most of the grunt work. I also get to work on programming projects once in a while. The good part is they pay for my schooling...

I am very disappointed that my dock does not do my laundry and make me breakfast. So I am going to post my comment to this thread and make myself sound like a whinny child. -jdog

From the ads running on UPN, it looks pretty flippin cool. I wondered how they were going to make the sets look they came before the original series without looking cheesy. -jdog

    RAM Prices

Earlier this summer I was thinking about buying a couple of 256mb dimms for my powerbook, but I decided to wait, as the cheapest was about $70/dimm. Even a couple of weeks ago the lowest price was around $60/dimm, now a 256mb dimm can be had for uner $40. Will these prices keep dropping? Or...

    Chat rooms, anybody?

kilowatt, why don't you start up a room on irc.openprojects.net( you can also use irc.linux.org and irc.debian.org). There is #macdev for developers, they have a lot of visitors, but it would be nice to have a gereral osx discussion room. -jdog

Who knows, maybe they will be able to ship the product with no dvd and no airport support, just the speed inceases. Then in December they will release 10.2 and charge another $20 for it. -jdog

Newbie wants to learn OS X programming

The only thing he/she will be doing is copying someone else's code. It might just be me, but I cannot learn from just cut/pasting an example from a tutorial. Either way, just play around with whatever method works for you. And you should check out REALbasic. Don't you have to pay for...

Newbie wants to learn OS X programming

Carbon and Cocoa are APIs. They make the creation of GUI apps much easier (as well as provide other non-GUI, funtions to make your life easier). Cocoa apps are dependant on OSX. Most Carbon apps can run in OSX or OS9. If you are looking to develop only for OSX, I would suggest learning the...
