2011 27 inch iMac - Black Screen of death?

Thanks! I'll have a play the next time it goes out. I've since read that it's a problem with 2011 iMacs. It may need a new screen.... But the temporary solution is to reduce the brightness a bit. I lowered that by two clicks and so far, it's stayed alive. I'll check with a torch next time...

2011 27 inch iMac - Black Screen of death?

Doesn't time fly. I thought that my iMac was still under guarantee, but it's well over 2 years old! Today it died. At least I thought that this was the problem, but it comes back on after a reboot. Further investigation shows that the computer is OK. It's just a black screen. I can access...

Moving Keychain passwords in bulk. Possible?

I have a new MacBook Pro which has replaced my dying 2007 Black MacBook. MacBook is running Lion. MacBook pro is running Mountain Lion. I have a large number of wi-fi and other passwords stored in (I assume) Keychain on the old machine, which automatically connected to wi-fi networks in...

Posting to a forum - I get three posts!

Thanks! I've added the Develop menu. Next time it happens, I'll check this and the error console. While browsing the Safari Pref, I noticed that Java was turned on. I've unticked it. I didn't check that when I started up the computer for the first time. I believed that Apple turned it off...

Posting to a forum - I get three posts!

Well almost a day later and a few posts on that forum, I have only had one triple post using Safari. I have also tried posting from Firefox and had no problems. But time will tell. I don't post on enough forums to be able to find another phpBB 3.0.11. I use a couple of phpBB v2 forums with...

Posting to a forum - I get three posts!

Good point. I've only tried with Safari. I would have expected the caches to be empty as it's brand new computer and it happened the first time I went to that forum. I check with Firefox etc. haven't downloaded it yet...

Posting to a forum - I get three posts!

Not sure if it's Apple software or the phpBB causing the problem. I post to many forums, this one included. And I do it from many machines and locations. But ONLY from my MacBook Pro, bought in January, running OS 10.8.2 and ONLY posting to a particular phpBB forum v.3.0.11 I find that my...

    Aperture permissions problem

Found the answer. Aperture has its own permissions. Open while holding down the CMD and Option keys and you get a different pop-up offering some buttons to allow you to fix things in various different ways.

    Aperture permissions problem

Had a slightly closer look and when Aperture opens for the second user all the menu items are greyed out. So it's not just the library that's not there. And as they are all grey I can't re-link to the library.

    Aperture permissions problem

I have a valid copy of Aperture on my computer. The computer is 27 inch iMac running 10.7.5. There are two users on the computer, both with admin privileges. Aperture has been working as normal on both with no problems until recently. On one user it is normal. When I switch users the...

    click drag stopped working

I wonder if they have redesigned in line with Mountain Lion. On my new laptop with Mountain Lion the trackpad does not have the tapand drag. You have to use three fingers to drag or else physically press the trackpad down. DIsappointing. Can you drag with three fingers?

New - MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion

I have an iCloud account. It was automatically created when Mobile Me was withdrawn. The iCloud Mail part was set up automatically when I set up the new laptop, but only the iCloud/me/mac addresses. Thanks for the tip on using the SysPrefs for adding my other accounts. Getting Mail fully...

New - MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion

I have got my new MacBook Pro up and running. But there are two small things that I want to do and can't find the right box to tick in preferences. I know I ticked them when I upgraded the old machine to Lion. First is to turn off the auto correct on typing. I don't need it on the...

MacBook trackpad has died. What are the best options?

Just to wind this up... I checked the Time Machine backup was up to date. Then erased and reformatted the hard disc. Loaded the minimum OS. No other applications. No Parallels emulator, etc. Trackpad still the same. Erratic, but mostly inert. Taken into account that this MacBook cannot be...

MacBook trackpad has died. What are the best options?

Trackpad still revives if "stressed". But, this evening the trackpad was working properly, but froze suddenly when an iCal alert appeared on the screen. So, is it software related after all? The other symptom is that when the trackpad freezes, a single one finger tap brings up th contextual...

MacBook trackpad has died. What are the best options?

Ah! I forgot about the keyboard viewer.... Good idea. :) I've been playing with the laptop for and hour or two with the battery removed, just mains power. Trackpad still fails from time to time. The battery is not swollen. It's the same thickness all over. I checked with a micrometer!! I'm...

MacBook trackpad has died. What are the best options?

I'll have a look at the software install. Certainly a few things to try before I throw the laptop out. A new top case is an option, but we suffer greatly in the UK from the $1 = £1 when things come over here. So, what you get for $100 we get for £100. Which is £188 :( The new motto of for...

MacBook trackpad has died. What are the best options?

Thanks. I took the battery out, but the intermittent fault is there and the battery looks OK. I poked the underside of the trackpad and looked to see if there was any visible damage, but it looks OK. The fault seems to happen as the laptop warms up. After a bit of consideration, maybe it's...
