I'd guess it means that open firmware couldn't find os x. I got the same message when I removed Darwin and tried to restart and also when I removed Mac OS X and tried to restart. the solution then was to zap the PRAM (alt-cmd-p-r at startup), then it started in os9 again. but, you want to start...

the thing with holding down "c" and the machine just restarts happened to me aswell. I was just about to give up on it and I released c so that the system would boot OS9. to my surprise it booted OSX... try it. it may help. theo

this won't help you if you can't boot from the CD, but beware that the OSX must reside somewhere on the first 8 gigs of your HD to work. I don't know if this is the first 8 gigs of the first drive or ANY drive, so it may be a problem when you try to install. had a strange problem first time...
