The funny thing about the console messages was they appeared after I had "named" him. Immediately I was dumbstruck, thinking my TiBook had gotten a life of its own, taking on the "Marvin" robot character from Hitchiker's. Kinda fun... I think its the Samba Server that outputs these messages...

Clarifying question: Does the private key ask for a passphrase, or is it the host that asks for password? You might want to try generating a SSH1 key instead of an SSH2 key: ssh-keygent -t rsa1 In any event, dont give up a passphrase for the key, just hit enter! Keep that private key...

Let me know what you find out! I'm also interested in upgrading Marvin.. But I doubt it'll be possible. I think the motherboard is built only for a videocard with 8 mb..

Hmm... Maybe thats because I did a "soft" restart. /sbin/init and /sbin/mach_init has PID 1 and 2, respectively. Seems the mach changes from the update hasn't been loaded on my system ;-) But I don't wanna screw up my uptime either! :p
