I''ve successfully installed Apache 2.0, thanks to utdrmac. His excellent article at http://homepage.mac.com/utdrmac/ explains how to modify the configure file to accomodate for apple-darwin-bsd. As you can see from my screenshot, everything is just dandy:

I have Apache 2 running also, but I wasn't able to get PHP 4.2.0 running using Marc LIyanage's updated instructions. I get stuck at the line:

sudo apxs -e -a -n php4 libexec/httpd/libphp4.so

I get the error, "cannot open /usr/build/config_vars.mk: No such file or directory at /usr/sbin/apxs line 248.".

I'm not sure at all. I'm having problems with Apache 1.32 interfering. I have to start ./httpd from the apache dir. Haven't had any time to dwelve into this mess today.. Let me know what you find out. All I know is the modules structure in 2.0 is totally refurbished, and you might want to check the man entry on how to attach a new module...

There is a binary at Verisontracker.com! Just downloaded it. Can I still use the button in the preferences to start the Apache Server when I installed it??? Or do I have to start it from the console?

No you won't. The button in the System Prefs is most likely tied to : /usr/sbin/apachectl (could also be directly linked to /usr/sbin/httpd).

You could try making a symbolic link to /usr/local/apache2/bin/httpd and see if that works...
