    hi all easy q ??

If you use Terminal.app and more /etc/httpd/httpd.conf and look for "DocumentRoot", the default is something like "/Library/WebServer/Documents/". However if you want it somewhere else, you can edit the above file to point anywhere you like. "DocumentRoot" can be set to point to a folder...

    Very Disappointed with Firefox

Camino does render a lot slower on the site you used as an example, than the others I tested (Shiira, Safari, FireFox & Mozilla) Camino does seem to be the only one that slows down, but not quite to the point of doing a "force quit". I'm running 10.3.9 and Camino 0.8.4

Urgent!! My Home Folder: I can't get into it!

Actually what you should do, from an admin point of view is to keep the OS on a smallish root disk and keep all "Users" home directories and "Applications" etc on their own disks (they are cheap). In reality there is a large hit reading and writting swap, temp files, actuall files to the same...

Me a Very Happy Camino User!

Just tried Shiira, and like Safari has problems dealing with Javascript, i.e. one simple test is fading from one piture to another. It is unable to process in this case a fade, FireFox, IE, Mozilla and Camino, this is just a suggestion that there maybe other hidden issues. However the example...

    MacOSX Tiger Constantly Crashing

As one of the previous posters mentioned, memory was my problem. What I did was, as I had 1.5 GB in three 512MB chuncks, was to initially re-seat all the memory. Once that didn't clear things up I extracted one chip, I did this till the machine became stable. I replaced the damaged RAM...

Anybody used MacOSX Tiger Server as desktop

From an UNIX admin standpoint its a gorgous oportunity to asses just how good Apple's packaging and functionality stacks up against those provided by Solaris, Linux and so forth. My guess is that all of the services provided can be turned off or on, just like any other UNIX. Would like...

Urgent!! My Home Folder: I can't get into it!

I use root account as well, but we get frowned upon for doing it. Have you lost images or a folder from your disk? I have tried DataRescue, Norton and so on. However if you deleted files rather than files lost due to some problem on the disk, then things are more difficult to retrieve.

Changing Internet Routing Using the Terminal

Do you still have the problem? Get the routing lisitng from a working PC, from its Command Window, I thinks its something like "route print" under XP. On the mac: In the Terminal to issue the following: netstat -r (if DNS is configured) netstat -rn (if DNS is not configured...

Urgent!! My Home Folder: I can't get into it!

Sounds like you didn't set your account to administer the machine, if that were done you can set the permissions on a folder from the "Get Info". Do you have an accout that can administer the machine?

Anybody used MacOSX Tiger Server as desktop

I've got the possibility of buying e legal boxed, but very cheap, OSX Tiger, its unwanted and an unlimited version. Has anybody out there used a Server version of Tiger for desktop. I'm a Solaris admin, and the only discernible differences are the neatly packaged products that come with...

    Background noise removal software

I have some original audio on a MacOSX system, the voice has been a little swamped by the sound of a projector next to voice. I am looking for some software to aid the recovery of the voice and remove only the background if possible. I am looking for software that can sample the regions of...

Way to 'get' system properties via terminal.

UNIX is complicated, or rather more correctly just very flexible and like most profesional applications are hard at first because there's just so much of it. However if you struggle on through a bit further, you'll find out that a lot of what you use is re-usable in a host of other tasks...

Way to 'get' system properties via terminal.

The last post does work and I agree it usually is best to use as much unix as there is around. On macOSX I use "system_profiler -detailLevel -2" and egrep out what I want. i.e. echo `system_profiler -detailLevel -2 | egrep "CPU Speed|Memory|Bus"` egrep allows you to put more than one...

Mac OS X 10.3.9 Update: Top or Flop?

After updating to 10.3.9, when I shutdown the G4 all is ok, until the big 23" monitor switches off, when this happens the G4 turns itself back on and boots up. I haven't done any work to find out if this is the graphics card or the USB interface in the monitor thats causing a COLD system boot...

Mac OS X 10.3.9 Update: Top or Flop?

I won't upgrade for a while till the kinks have been sorted with Tiger, the other reason is I don't have a G5 to take me too 64 bit and all the "behind the scenes" OS tasks, for me that's where the real improvements will be taking place not the "eye candy" widgets. However I still wouldn't...

    phpBB problem Safari/FireFox/etc

Thanks for the note and at first glance it would seem to be the fix. Had a look and these lines were uncommented in the httpd.conf file. During the process of transfering the index.php in initally comes witha .exe extension untill it is completely downloaded. The Mac thinks its a binary file?

    phpBB problem Safari/FireFox/etc

Just setup the above service on my Mac at home as a testbed. When I attempt to login, a file is transmitted to the browser "index.php", this gets saved everytime, a pest. However during the process of transfer, the file is initially gived and "exe" extension. The problm is that all...

    keeping it fast..G4 500mhzDP

We used some of their kit recently for data transfer when the company I was working for bought another. This version was a 1TB Firewire (800mbs), it did the job flawlessly, it was so partable and fast!. What was sad was the MS loaded PCs they were using couldn't handle the throughput, when we...
