    Carbon, Cocoa, Java

I am having difficulty understanding the difference. I know that Carbon is something that is updated from Classic format to OS X, and Cocoa is OS X only. Java is supposed to run without recompile on all platforms with a Java Virtual Machine. (I.E. OS X, Mac OS Whatever, Windoze, Solaris) What I...

    New Appearance is under development

This isn\'t <I>really</I> related to this guy\'s post, but think about how interesting it would be to use X with the Classic interface. Since it is pretty obvious that OS X is primarily a lot of eye candy, it would be interesting to see what people think about it when the UI functions as they...

    virtual pc for carbon

Your notes about the start menu and such are exactly what i mean. You are not able to launch applications with disks set up the way that Virtual PC is set up now. You cannot mount the disk image, and therefore cannot double click an application in the Mac OS to open it. For this reason, you must...

    virtual pc for carbon

That\'s even worse than not having it carbonized. How the hell are you supposed to tell you windows apart in three different OSs. And how are you supposed to do configuration of the Operating System? Classic does not have such a problem because you can get at control panels and usch on the hard...

    HP 8250i CD-RW drive doesn't work under X Beta

probably. it's beta. no extra peripherals are supported. absolutely none. it's up to the manufacturer to make drivers and such.

    Cant boot into OS X

the somehow would be that it is unsupported. they have a system that checks your gestalt id. if it isn't supported, it doesn't boot.

    virtual pc for carbon

i mailed connectix with this very issue: 'unfortunately it is not carbonized' even with version 4. bunch of idiots.

    slow-motion minimize

actually, on my g4 dp, i was not impressed with how aqua performed minimization. I hate it. it is using both processors, but it only gives decent performance to a full-screen window when you are using a resolution of about 1024x768, anything higher it is frighteningly choppy.

cd eject button on new pro keyboard - NO GOOD!

what's your system. I have a g4 dp (see my sig) and my eject doesn't work either. volume keys work ok though. i suspect it's just like with sleep, it's only supported on portables right now.

    slow-motion minimize

most likely it isn't an easter egg. it was probably put in soley so that jobs could demonstrate how windows minimized when he did os x demos. that's sort of what he said at MacWorld SF 2000 http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/mwsf00

    developer tools

I've lost count of how many times I've redownloaded them. I've got about 400 MB of developer trash sitting freash from the d/l.

    developer tools

File Sharing Between 9.0.4 and X

exactly what i meant. 99$ for OS 9 is a lot less than 999$ for AppleShare IP. ;-)

    A request

So what? You are paying for the documentation and the packaging and th CD. Didn't you notice how they took the initiative to print the manual in COLOR? Do you know how expensive that is? BTW, microsucks charged over 50$ for a windoze beta, and it is closer to the final version is in terms of...

    slow-motion minimize

if you add a 'control' key to that, you get it even slower. not a lot, but noticeably slower.

File Sharing Between 9.0.4 and X

um, no offense, but not everybody can fork over the $1500 for appleshare ip, and some people here are so cheap they don't even want to pay $30 for x itself. if you enable tcp/ip sharing, this works much better. of course, that's assuming you have the resources.

    A request

I have one simple request for people who have pirated their CDs from Hotline and are having trouble with the installation. don't bug us. Stuff that floats around on Hotline has a good chance of being corrupt, hello? How about going to by a legitimate copy before whining to us about it. it's only...

    OS X on wallstreet?

Here, to clarify things even further, if your powerbook looks like this, you can run mac os x pb. Here's maybe a better view. [Edited by macboy73 on 10-13-2000 at 08:52 AM]

    OS X on wallstreet?

I have it running off of my Wallstreet 266 with 128RAM. I think it is actually a supported machine by apple's definition. Any PowerBook G3 except for the original one talks about the first "PowerBook G3"not the "powerBook G3 Series" The "PowerBook G3" has an appearance much more like the...

    Classic

That's interesting. where did you hear that? that seems a lot like apple is trying to squeeze a whole bunch more mac os 9 sales out of X. a LOT more sales. i have the os 9 disc, and the ones that came with my g4, but my 9 disk is 9.0, not 9.0.4. I would have to run the upgrade, and that is too...
