Post your OS X.1 Desktop Pics!!!!

I run a pretty clean desktop across two monitors with the dock waaaay over on the right and the CPU meter at the bottom of the primary monitor. I use DockSwap to switch between a few different dock configurations.

    lack of dual monitor support

I'll have to see if that is supported by OS X, thanks for the link.

    lack of dual monitor support

Yeah apple added the radeon pci as a second video card option for $250, must have done that very recently, but that didn't help me a bit when we bought the machines nor does it help me now. Buying a radeon via 3rd party has always been an option, as I stated in my first post. But half of my...

    Mac 10.1 vs Windows XP

I can't imagine anyone at my work would use that feature, we all have our own box or two or three, mix of mac and win. i guess this feature's usefulness just depends on what kind of work environment you're in. How many work environments really require multiple people to log into a machine in a...

    Ftp

The versions of X 10.1 shipped to developers for testing, even the GM, have debug code which is stripped before the thing is packaged. Who cares what the final version was, according to this apple guy you don't get that exact same OS if you're installing a dev build. take it for what you...

    lack of dual monitor support

Apple, you've got a real problem with multiple monitor support on your machines now. We were in the market for a couple of 733 quicksilvers a few weeks back. I was browsing the apple store, building a box, and started looking for a second video card option. What?! no second video card option? Oh...

DP 450, major problems, need help and advice badly!

My blue G3 at work had a similar issue. First thing I did was boot from OS 9 CD and go to the Utilities folder and run Disk First Aid. As I recall, it didn't even see the drive. So I booted from Norton Utilities CD. It saw the drive and found major errors and did a little repair but couldn't...

anyone using XP? (this is an OSX Q.)

My only point regarding terminal app was in terms of needing to do things as Root, the only user I ever log in as on my machine. I wasn't advocating using term to run apps under other logins in general.

anyone using XP? (this is an OSX Q.)

Is it that you don't have to save your docs before you switch users and you come right back to your user as it was when you left? Since I never log in as anyone else in X and don't share my computer with anyone, I don't have any use for this type of feature. Root user logins are unnecessary for...

    LocalTalk and 10.1

Is the laserwriter on a network connected with ethernet cables or phone net or something else? Directly connected to the computer? If the laserwriter has an ethernet connection then a direct ethernet to ethernet cable works or if you have cable modem or DSL you'd need a hub to get both machines...

    2nd Video Card Suggestion

ATI Radeon or nVidia geforce2. That's it for under $250 cards for the mac. You -could- use a Rage 128/Pro 16MB card, but those are no longer available anywhere that I can find. I've been sitting here with a black second monitor on my right since getting this G4/733 because there are no...

A Question to UNIX newbies out there...

Not really a unix newbie, i do use the terminal app a bit, but that is for connecting to other SUN and Linux servers. I do pretty much zero terminal app work directed at my own machine. It simply hasn't been necessary for me to use the term for anything but remote logins. 10.1 rules.

    Need feedback...

I'd talk to filemaker about this, also might want to talk to the Lasso people, i believe lasso is a FMPro package made to interface with web forms etc. You might also want to talk to Apple about the ODBC/OSX question, there is support in the MacOS but i'm not sure at what level, would be best to...

    LocalTalk and 10.1

Appletalk works well in 10.1. File sharing over IP works well in 10.1. What exactly, in the realm of networking, are you wanting to do?

    once OSX.1 comes out...

I'm going to plagurize uoba a bit, but add my thoughts: 1. Make sure [all of your useful data] is backed up onto an external disk. 2. Boot into MacOS 9 (.1 or .2) from the OS9 CD (after startup sound, keep finger on 'C' until confirmation of CD booting. 3. Once in the MacOS desktop...

    OSX 10.04 - 10.1 Patch... Why not?

I've done both and seen no difference between a full install and an update. Both ways give you a great speed boost. But, if you've been using X sort of half-@ssed and don't mind wiping the partition, I'd recommend a clean install of 10.1 for various other (mostly disk frag and swap space) reasons.
