    connection reset by peer

I have discovered that this is an issue with the Linksys router (likely a setting). I will have to chat with the administrator at work. 1. Offhand, does anybody know how to adjust this setting? 2. Now, I suspect, this thread should be moved out of x11 and unix folder -- would admin move...

    connection resetting

Some of my connections reset or close regularly if I am not using them. I notice this with SSH connections through terminal or X11, as well as messenger connections (I use Yahoo messenger mostly). I am connected through airport on my powerbook g4 to a Linksys wireless router. Would...

    mac & linux kvm switch

Has anybody ever used a KVM switch to share keyboard, mouse, monitor between a Mac and a Linux system? I would like to set-up a KVM switch to connect a single keyboard, mouse, monitor to both my G4 powerbook and a Suse Linux desktop. Any help, advice, or info about your experiences would...

    Where can I get X11 for 10.4.6

My X11 is in the utilities folder. Spotlight finds it. I had to install it separately -- but, I don't remember what I did (it was 7 months ago). Hope this is, maybe, at least a wee bit of help.

    MS-Excel decimal place-holder

"Tools>Options" menu does not exist on my version of excel (MS-Office 2004 for Mac). Thank you all for your help. While I'm waiting for gcc to download (and implement fortran compile in XCode), I have completed the necessary calculations in MatLab.

    MS-Excel decimal place-holder

Thank you -- but I checked that option already. It doesn't allow the solution that I seek. Whether for currency, for scientific notation, or for fixed/general notation, the decimal place holder remains a comma. I *very* much want to use a period. For example: If I would like to enter...

    MS-Excel decimal place-holder

Do you know how I can change the format for the decimal place-holder in MS-Excel? Presently, the place-holder is a comma (,) -- this is extremely inconvenient when trying to work with data sets in multiple applications (all the others use a period). How can I change the decimal place...

    Delayed recharging: DC board failure?

Unfortunately, my bit of info here won't help you to diagnose. But it might help to allay any worry. My computer (15" PB G4) behaves similarly to yours. The 10-15second delay before charging seems familiar... it has regularly performed this way. I have never had any problems with charging...

What do you think about getting a Refurbished MBP?

One of my co-workers recently purchased a refurbished 12" G4 powerbook. It's all great. He is every bit as satisfied with his as 3 other co-workers are with their brand new mac computers.

    Is my mouse shot?

It sounds to me like your mouse is dead. Pick up a new $15 mouse; it will save you aggravation of fighting with current malfunctioning mouse. Is it still under warranty? As far as I know, most Logitech and Microsoft mouses can be used with mac computers.

    USB Ports

Frig. I think we are likely SOL with regards to USB HDD. I just finished reading/scanning most of http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=227325&tstart=30 It seems that the USB ports on 15" Al PB don't regularly have enough snort to start up external HDD. The common solutions are...

    USB Ports

wow! Last night, I tried to run an external HDD -- had the same problem. However, I don't know if it was the HDD. USB ports have been OK for external headset/mic, and for compact flash, and for USB key (but they likely don't draw as much energy). Yup, I too would *really* like to know...
