    Safari URL Bar Annoyance

So in other words, there is no easy way to turn it off? I know that Safari draws on the existing bookmark list for auto-complete as well, right?

What kind of internet connection do you have?

About $35/month for 12megabit DSL (12 down, 1 up) and no bandwidth caps. I'm possibly moving back to Vancouver, Canada next year and am dismayed to hear that DSL options are few and most have bandwidth caps... :( Any recommendations?

AtStake CTO Loses Job After Microsoft Report

CTO loses job after criticizing Microsoft as being a national security threat What a hoot! How dare he criticize the great Microsloth? Everyone knows that using Microsloth products is the best thing that one can do for home, company, and country!!! ;)

Is Final Cut Express Dual Processor Aware?

Hrm. I guess while iMovie itself doesn't support dual-cpus, having a dual processor machine makes a huge difference in system responsive (at least down in the G4 500 and under class of machines). My old G4/400 went from unbearable to actually fun to use when I upgraded to dual 500s... So...

    Apple Care, after purchase?

According to the Apple Store out here in Tokyo, the extended Apple Care warranty is also transferable with the sale of your old computer to the buyer so that does have some added value if you plan to sell your computer before the 3 year mark. Cheers.

NOO!!! Powerbooks have no L3 cache!

My aging G4 with an Encore Dual 500 has a nice fat 2 x 1MB L2 cache (one per CPU) and no L3 so that should be an indication that things are all right...

    Paris stuff.

If that was true, I'd be happier than a fruitcake... I've decided to go with an iBook and route the cost difference into some quality glass for my D-SLR and I'd love to be able to buy into forward-technology...

    Who is Arden?

Nothing fancy, just a long-time Mac user (I started on an SE), car fan (Subaru fan, thus the 'legacyb4' moniker), and a lover of all things technological...

    Who is Arden?

Clicking on today's New Posts, I noticed that Arden responds to seemingly every post made to the board. I know there was a post earlier about "What is Herve" and so I go to thinking that, despite possibly getting flamed or booted for some unknown reason, the following questions had to be asked...

Buying new laptop...Did I make the right choice?

Yup, and when you are running a Windows network with domain users set to Power Users or less, at the end of the day it's me who still has to make sure that every blood PC is properly patched. Forget about expecting that users (especially in an office) will take the time nor care to maintain...

Buying new laptop...Did I make the right choice?

Well, whatever you chose, that's cool. However, please do assume the burden and responsibility of making sure that the oh-so-awesome XP operating system is up to date to avoid ever increasing security holes being found... Cheers.

iBook 800/900 - AOE II, Starcraft, etc.

I've got reasonably simple gaming needs and wanted to see if AOE II, Starcraft, Tropico, or other sim-style games run smoothly enough on a current generation iBook 800/900 with maximum RAM. Feedback please.

    The thrill is gone

What's going to give me that thrill all over again is Gran Turismo 4 on the Playstation 2 when it's released in December... Now THAT is something to get excited for! Cheers.

    The worm in my apple

The biggest concern you probably should have right now is blindly typing in Terminal commands if you are downloading or testing sample *nix stuff off the Net. Much more subtle than the Wash-Dishes.app route since if you are not totally familiar with what the commands do, you could be doing the...

    New ipod

I made the mistake of plugging my iPod into my Mac at work for an emergency power charge and changing sync mode to manual instead of canceling the dialog... I got home and lost a day's worth of music stats (ratings, play counts, etc.) so be sure to take your power along with you... Cheers.
