    Apple Store is down

Not good from my point of view. Great for the average home user, but 24" iMacs still retail well over the £1000 mark here in the UK. Trouble for me is although it has slightly higher specifications the entry level Mac Pro I was considering is now going to cost me an additional £200. While not...

Migrate from AFP to SMB - Impossible??

You could try and create an archive of some of the files and then copy that to the smb share and expand it. I experienced something similar when using Dave to access shares as it tagged it with an attribute. If I archived them and moved them and then expanded them via the same system the...

active directory and work group managers

Try the OSX Server Manuals, there should be one for User Admin and Workgroup Manager, found here : http://support.apple.com/manuals/#serversandenterprisesoftware I think you will have to bind the server to the Active Directory for it to be able to access the accounts. What exactly is it...

    Entourage 2008 and public folder

Try subscribing to it then it appears to retain some data locally.

    Driver/Patch for

No, and as it is against the licence agreement to install Leopard on any non-Apple hardware you will be unlikely to find any assistance here. If you want to try OSX without buying a Mac you could always buy a copy of Leopard server which can be run in a virtual environment.

    Steve Jobs sick leave

I agree, here is hoping Steve gets well soon. But I for one hope for his sake he doesn't come back, he has done the hard work and deserves the chance to take it easy. Unfortunately in the long term, like his great nemesis Bill Gates did at Microsoft, he needs to live without Apple and much...

Fan concern in Macbook white 07

With 93% idle CPU it should be fine. Change the tab from My Processes to All processes to double check that figure. Otherwise I would suggest running the Apple Hardware test to see if everything looks OK. I don't have my Macbook with me at present, but I will check it later and let you know...

Fan concern in Macbook white 07

Try opening Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor and see what processes are running. Are you running any Anti-virus software as this is a common culprit ?

How will Snow Leopard compare with Windows 7?

You don't have to be a private beta tester and it is not illegal either. Windows 7 is now in public beta and if you have an Apple Development Connection subscription you have access to apple pre-release software including the OS.

What Song Are You Playing Now?

Oh please, Tiger Feet by Mud is classic, compared to the manufactured drivel that is being turned out these days. Just got to wait another 50 weeks before I can fire up Lonely This Christmas again :-)

How will Snow Leopard compare with Windows 7?

I think Windows 7 will be much better than Vista, but apart from slimming it down and making the Apps more Exzchange aware I have not seen a big difference in 10.6. As Fryke mentioned unless the final release changes it will not run on PowerPC based systems which may well upset a lot of users...

How to lock a quicktime mov file?

Do they need to copy anything from the lab systems ? If not then you could use an OSX Server to manage the system and prevent them using USB devices altogether.

What planet are Apple on ????

The high end 2.4Ghz black and aluminum. I know it has a LCD screen and nvidia graphics chip, but I bought a 2.4Ghz white Macbook in April for £760 including 3 Years Applecare. The new machine would cost me £1035 and this is with Apple's educational discount. Retail Price for this package would...

What planet are Apple on ????

Having just seen the new Macbook I am baffled by what Apple have done. In a time of economic downturns and cost cutting on a grand scale by both individuals and businesses who on earth thought that redesigning these systems resulting in a £200+ price increase was a good idea ? One of the most...

    Deleting pervious owner's account

Assuming you have the setup disks you could boot to those and change the password on that account and login and delete the stuff that way. Alternatively use the Directory Utility to sett he root password and login with that and delete it. Be very careful if you use tis method as root has the...

Hostname changes depending on if I'm at home or work

I would assume that you are picking up your network settings via dhcp rather than statically entering them. This will cause the change in hostname depending on how much information is included in your work place dhcp file. The name under the sharing tab in system preferences should not change.

    USB Wireless adapter

I'd go with a Belkin as well if you can find one, mine worked flawlessly on my old G4. If you can't find Belkin drivers there are generic chipset ones available for some of their models.

    invalid B-tree node size

Unlikely I'm afraid. I had a similar issue with a Mac and in the end I had to re-install the OS. Some people have reported success using Disk Warrior, but more have reported that they needed to re-install.

How do i change UID on OS X 10.5 ?

A quick thing to check is the time on both systems (server and Mac) as if they are more than a couple of minutes out it can cause this.

How do i change UID on OS X 10.5 ?

A few questions to get a bit more info if I may. I assume you are connecting to a samba (smb) share on the windows system, is this the case ? If you et an error message what is it ? Secondly do you have a username/password for this windows system ? If you do can you login to the other Mac and...
