OK., thanks for clarifying. I retrieved the app using Time Machine. I don't understand why the standard OS doesn't include Pages or something like (office software). Pretty sure ever since I've owned a Mac I've had some built-in program to do this job.

No, it's not showing. I have never bought Pages though. I believe it came free with one of the past OS, and I've never had to purchase it since.

I found Pages on the app store but it appears it's going to charge me again.

Whilst shuffling data to make space on my HD, I moved all my photos to an external drive. Now, every time I launch iPhoto it becomes unresponsive and I have to force Quit. How can I fix this? (I've tried rebooting.) 2007 iMac, OS 10.9.4 Mavericks.

The alternative is to leave them cluttering up my Inbox. I've always deleted messages once read, and never had a problem saving them for YEARS, so I don't get why this has happened now. Thanks Cheryl for clearing that up. I knew there was a setting somewhere in Preferences.

At some recent point, Mail has begun deleting all my messages more than a month old. I have looked for a setting in preferences which will allow me to extend the length of time messages are saved for, but such a thing no longer seems to exist! Can anyone help?

Apple Care sorted this for me. For anyone who's interested, the solution was to go into my iMac's Sharing, click File Sharing tickbox, click Options, then uncheck the box marked "Share files and folders using SMB".

What is the cheapest way to send an analog audio signal from a Minidisc to my iMac? I know there are expensive Firewire interfaces that will allow me to do this but I am after an inexpensive solution.
