    10.1.1

Installed the installer update 1.0.. re-ran software update (w/o rebooting) and installed 10.1.1 (rebooted after update) without problems others have been mentioning. I'm still wondering why it takes so freakin long to install updates.. the installer update took a good 15 minutes in it's...

    Netscape X 6.2 - No workies..

Just downloaded and installed Omniweb 4.1sp7.. What a HUGE difference.. it's almost worth paying money for now.. :D

    Netscape X 6.2 - No workies..

Ok.. I'm fed up with IE 5.1 beta being so pigishly slow (at loading pages).. OmniWeb has the beauty, but doesn't work for alot of sites.. like eBay! So I decided to check out Netscape X 6.2 after hearing rave comments about it.. I just can't get this sucker to work. I installed it, ran the...

    Weird...

Actually, I was just looking to see if anyone else was experiencing this as well. I finally made the leap back to OS X after the 10.1 update came out (figured I'd give it another whirl). The first thing I noticed was that the startup chime was no longer working. The second thing I noticed...

How do you optimize HD in OS X?

Was your OS X partition in HFS+ or UFS? I haven't seen anything that does UFS partitions yet, and UFS is alot more secure filesystem (plus the support of decent length filenames).

    Holy S#!? : FIRE.APP is a damn good app!!!

I switched back to the OS X version of the true ICQ client because I was having too many problems with Fire. I realize it's not even a version 1.0 so it's bound to have problems. Lack of file transfers, no decent way to add users, old messages re-appearing every time I started Fire (it was...

    Entourage X / Outlook Express

Actually, they DO sell it alone as I found out today while picking up my copy of the 10.1 updater CD.. there it was on the shelf.. stand alone copy of Entourage: 2001 Of course, that doesn't answer the question of if they'll make another stand-alone of X.

Remember Kids 5g64 Nor 5g68 Are Final Releases!

Seriously people this is just as childish as all the flame wars over the build number of first release of OS X 10.0.0.. Are we really going to rehash this all over again?

    Announced: 10.1 available on Saturday.

http://news.cnet.com/news/0-1006-200-7296687.html?tag=mn_hd I still find it odd that the news has been availabe on Cnet and Slashdot for most of the morning, but no mention on any of the 'regular' Mac sites, like MacCentral..

Poll: Which Day will Mac OS X Arrive?

Although I've yet to see any mention on MacCentral.. it's reported that Steve announced this morning around 9am and that it would be available on Saturday.. read: news.cnet.com

    Free 10.1

erm.. register.apple.com? Or is that only for hardware? I registered mine on installation, so I'm not familiar with the alternative methods..

    BBEdit instead of vi

Sure does.. remember, it's part of Pine.. _THE_ best email proggy for the command line. vi is for those who are truely into sadism and self abuse.. and emacs is just plain overkill for anything other than code developement. I bought the O'Reilly books for both 7-8 years ago.. a text editor...

    Trying to figure out FTP

The standard ftp daemon(s) included with Mac OS X won't do what your asking (atleast not all of it). However, if you wander over to freshmeat.net I'm sure you'll find something more to your liking, with documentation.

    'top' disagrees with CPU Monitor

The command "top" is ALWAYS going to be more accurate than CPU Monitor because it sees EVERYTHING running in the ENTIRE operating system (daemons, every background process and of course the GUI). I know that this doesn't answer why CPU Monitor is showing near max, but it's obviously inaccurate.

    Toast Titanium

Toast Titanium works just fine under Mac OS X.. you just can't burn CD's though.. yet.. Now that 10.0.2 is out which allows iTunes to burn CD's, I'm hopeful that Adaptec will release their write-enabled patch for Toast in the VERY near future.. keep a close eye on versiontracker..

How are you guy partitionning your HD?

You might want to include users who have two drives, and OSX on one drive, and Classic/OS9 on the other. There's no 'close' choice for that instance. I've given OS X full roam to my secondary 30GB drive, while OS9 takes up my 40GB primary drive.

    'who' doesn't see terminal users

Have you tried just 'w' instead of who? I haven't checked yet to see what, or if, it aliases to, however it does give you a nice tabular listing of everyone logged onto your machine including tty numbers.

    UNIX: Midnight Commander

Actually, it's looking for the host type, not the hostname. This particular problem has been resolved by: % su % cp /usr/libexec/config.* . % ./configure There are a couple other problems though which still won't let me compile. It looks like a issue with the linker. I'm still working...

    UNIX: Midnight Commander

*laughs* as fate would have it, figured I'd go ahead and try to compile glib anyways in leu of getting an answer to this question, only to find glib produces the same error. *ARG!* Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.
