OS X HFS+ Startup Volume Out of Space

Please find the enormous system.log attached below. The asterisks are to mask the IP address. Note: this file was compressed with GZipper; it should carry the extension ".tgz" but I had to change it to ".zip" for this site.

    rmdir

If anyone would be interested in a patented (not really), brignt, shiny PDF of the UNIX manual pages for rm and/or rmdir, just e-mail me at cheny@mn.rr.com requesting the specific file[s] and I'll get right on it. ;-)

OS X HFS+ Startup Volume Out of Space

There is no log, at least not when I launch Console.app. What is the filepath for the system log?

Internal 60GB ATA. It starts up fine. It won't shutdown/restart.

OS X HFS+ Startup Volume Out of Space

I copied ~/Documents to another partition using the Finder and now there are 5.69 GB free on the startup disk. I don't care about file permissions in that folder. Is there a known issue with 10.1.5 and 333 mHz iMacs with aftermarket hard drives?

OS X HFS+ Startup Volume Out of Space

I filled my startup volume, copied my ~/Documents folder to another partition, and now my machine won't restart/shutdown. Any ideas?

    setting up anonymous ftp

testuser, you've ported your anonymous ftp instructions to the comand line! Wouldn't "write-only ftp" usually be referred to as a dropbox?

    disabled cell clock

I don't know. What's a cell clock? This is a known issue related to file permissions. Basically, if you've changed the default Finder view for a particular folder as root, you're screwed. Apple knows about this and has intoned, but not promised, to address it in 10.1. Since this obviously...

Are you implying that Word is not expected to crash? If yes, are you on crack?

OS X Will Not Shut Down/Restart/Logout

D'oh! Now the Pro Keyboard volume keys don't work!

OS X Will Not Shut Down/Restart/Logout

Why, yes, my startup volume WAS full, but I fixed that. fsck doesn't seem to do anything, with or without the -y modifier. When you run either, the command prompt comes back immediately, indicating that nothing is actually being done. Hmmmm......

OS X Will Not Shut Down/Restart/Logout

OS X will not shut down, restart, or logout. If I tell it to do any of these things, the screen goes pale blue, the mouse is still active, as is the Force Quit (Command+Option+Escape) dialog box; oddly, tho', there are no programs listed as running and, still, the machine has not shut down...

Turn off that really annoying beep!

Does anyone know which numerical string controls the beep in 10.1.5? I successfully hacked it out but it's back; the two values on the instructions page (linked to in the first post of this thread) do not exist in the BezelServices document under 10.1.5.

    QuickTime 6 and DivX movies

E-mail me at chenly@mn.rr.com. I'll e-mail a tarball of all my /Library/QuickTime components. Just copy them in, replacing anything with the same name.

    QuickTime 6 and DivX movies

Yes, try logging out and in. I didn't have to, but the Divx software might be different and I'm sure my machine is configured, uh, differently than yours. Let us know how it goes!

    QuickTime 6 and DivX movies

Go to http://www.divx.com and download the Mac OS X alpha software. It works fine and only involves dragging some files into /Library/Quicktime. You don't even need to restart the Quicktime player. There's also a handy Divx Validator for converting peski Divx files that can't be immediately...

    Generic PPD

How does one go about defining the ColorSync profile for a generic printer set up under Print Center? I only "print" to PDF, and I would like to include a full RGB color gamut in my PDFs; unfortunately, a rather restrictive CMYK gamut seems to be in play. Any ideas?
