How many hours has your computer been on for? Time machine backs up every hour for the past 24hrs. Then once a day for a month then weekly. Other possiblility is that youve filled your external HDD up so you cant backup anymore? Is the HDD full?

Yeah thats exactly what i am doing. PROBLEM NOW SOLVED. I dont know what happened but after restarting and numerous tries the partition actually worked. Sorry for wasting anyones time.

Yes, you will need to convert the DVD to MP4. Try using 'Handbrake' for this. You can then add the MP4 to iTunes for watching later on iTunes.
