Are you using DCHP for you IP address? If so, it is quite likely that reinstalling X released your DHCP info. Its the same thing that could happen if you turn your computer off. You can tell OS X to use a specific IP address, but your ISP probably won't like that. FaRuvius

Most of the services require you to select text or a file. I imagine the Google service does as well. Try highlighting a word in a web browser(try omniweb instead of IE), and then go to the services menu. The google service should no longer be greyed out. FaRuvius
