    DivX for X (DivOSX)

    I've downloaded and tried out the new DivX for OS X (DivOSX) codecs for QuickTime and they seem to work - just not very well for 10.0.4. Some people are reporting great success. I'm assuming they're using 10.1, since the author indicates it works best with this version of the OS. I was...

    Using X as Your Main OS Yet?

    Is anyone else using Mac OS X as their main OS yet? I am! These software packages made it possible: 1) Toast Titanium for X (5.1 Preview Release) Not perfect, but pretty darn good. I use this to burn unless I need access to long filenames. Then I have to move all the files over to...

    UnRAR for X

    Glad it worked! I'll keep all this in mind. A GUI would be nice, wouldn't it? :)

    UnRAR for X

    I've tried following the program's built-in instructions (although I would consider them to be pretty cryptic) and the way I use it is a follows: <BLOCKQUOTE><B>unrar x [filename.rar] [filename.avi]</B></BLOCKQUOTE>Obviously, the 'unrar' is needed to run the program. The 'x' determines use...

    UnRAR for X

    I've tried the command-line version of unrar. I've tried Stuffit Expander. I've even tried Decode da Code. None of these programs can properly decode RAR segments that have long filenames. Does anyone know of a Mac OS X UnRAR program that can? Is anyone working on a long filename compatible...

    Hitchhikers guide

    It seems there is a Z-Interpreter (the program that reads and plays old Infocom games) ready for Mac OS X! I did a little poking around week before last on this very subject and found that JZip (the program in question) had already been ported to Darwin. The following info assumes you're...

    Forum Suggestion

    How about a forum for hardware and software upgrades? This would prove especially useful for people making the transition to Mac OS X. Thanks for considering it,

    Apple Display Connector -> VGA

    Ok. Sounds good. Now back to my original question: "Is there a ADC to VGA adapter?

    Apple Display Connector -> VGA

    I just took a quick roundabout at the Apple Store (just to make sure) and they're only selling flat panel displays.

    Apple Display Connector -> VGA

    Since Apple has gone totally LCD, they've also absolutely embraced their new Apple Display Connector (ADC) standard over standard VGA (used by all PCs and more than 50% of the existing Mac user base). I know at first there was quite an outcry when Apple introduced this standard. There was a...

    Toast Titanium

    What burner do you use? Oh, and I'm waiting to purchase as some kind of warped incentive for Roxio. ;)

    Toast Titanium

    Did you read the interview with Roxio where they talk about this very functionality? http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/0105/10.roxio.shtml Insightful. Let's hope they get it out soon.

    Cd-r(w) ?

    Although 10.0.2 does allow me to mount CDs using my Iomega Zip CDRW 650 USB, it does not allow me to burn from any program but iTunes (as far as I can tell). Toast Titanium doesn't see the drive as a CDR or CDRW device. When Toast works the way it should in X, I'm gonna throw a party. :)

    What is your favorite piece of customization software?

    I would vote for two pieces (and since I'm starting this thread, I can do that ;)): 1) BlackLight - Just install it. Oooh. Aaaaah. 2) X-Assist - Everything that shouldn't have been lost on the way over from Mac OS 9. Anyone else?

    Toast Titanium

    As soon as I can burn discs in Mac OS X, I will plop down the cash for Toast Titanium. Hope they're listening. ;)

    Change Startup Disks During Boot

    After a little investigation talking to a friend who knows more about OF than I, I realized the answer to my second question above. About the first: I was able to determine that my two-partition drive has X & 9 on hd6. I then altered your script to change...

    Stealth Vs Closed Ports

    Well, the description I've read is that closed ports are not useable and stealth ports can't even be seen. It's as if there's not even a computer present at the stealthed port. The advantage being that if someone with malicious intent sees a closed port, that might be incentive enough to try...
