How to quit the graphical OS from another Mac ?

Oops ! After activating the correct services, it worked ! (of course I had long restarted my Mac, but I will know for the future... if I can remember those voodoo incantations ! ;) ) Still, I have another question : Terminal complained that : The authenticity of host '10.0.0.24...

How to quit the graphical OS from another Mac ?

I type :ssh 10.0.0.24And I get the reply :Secure connection to 10.0.0.24 refused. (of course, I type the correct IP of my computer ! ;) I have turned the "Activate FTP access" option "on" in the Sharing preference pane, and I have the same login on both Macs...) Is there something else I...

10.1 Huge BUG in iBook 2001 (DVD)

Well, I was away form my Mac for a few moments and I realized, when I came back, that I had forgotten to press the "submit reply" button... now my reply looks odd, but I wasn't aware of the discussion that had happened since then !!! :D Anyway, even if your Mac OS X copy resulted in a working...

10.1 Huge BUG in iBook 2001 (DVD)

It appears that you have indeed a problem, but it seems isolated to your iBook. I have the same model iBook you have (except with a CD-RW/DVD drive) and I never experienced such a problem. In fact, Mac OS 10.1 works flawlessly on it. If you are certain of the quality of your Mac OS X 10.1...

How to quit the graphical OS from another Mac ?

I have 2 Macs linked together with an ethernet link. One of my Mac is presently stuck : the screen saver is on and I have a magnificient rainbow cursor that has been turning if front of my face for about an hour now. (I have not been siting there for an hour, mind you !!!) Of course, I am...

    Welcome!

My god, Admiral AK ! You've taken over MacOSX.com !!! ;) Some of you are referring to new models of Palm PDAs. Could you be anymore specific ??? Are the new ones more exciting ? Do you think I should think about trading my Vx then ?

    Can't trash deleted user's folders...

Since I am no Unix whiz kid, I like to use old tricks. ;) Simply boot in Mac OS 9, navigate to the Users folder of your Mac OS X volume, and delete the offending folder. (FYI, Apple says you don't need to remove the old user's folder, since it only uses 16 k or so of disk space.)

    Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just for info, starting in January (with Mac OS 10.2), Adaptec will use Apple's driver for Toast Titanium X, and not their home brewed one anymore. (I guess that means that the Apple drivers will finally be up to par and reliable...) That is to say... if you want your drive supported, write...

    what is going on?!?

Then again, PRAM must still be used since its corruption affected the computer's behavior in Mac OS X ! ;) As for PRAM reset, I had read in a few Mac books or mags that one should hold the key combination you describe long enough so as to force the computer into 2 or 3 consecutive restart...

    what is going on?!?

Absolutely ! And I agree : the likely cause of your PRAM corruption is your numerous Mac OS 9 crashes.[B] Interesting question. Keep us posted !

    what is going on?!?

I would say that this seemingly innocuous sentence is very telling ! :D I think that you did not have those problem then... otherwise you would have noticed !

    Greek OS X :D

I would think that if Apple hasn't yet included Greek, Chinese or Arabic alphabets and fonts in the main OS distribution, it is because the OS isn't (still) finished. I would surmise that the "encoding manager" is not yet fully functional, hence Apple decision. Of course, this is the optimist's...

    what is going on?!?

I don't really have any serious insight, but I can at least certify that I don't have this problem here running Mac OS X (10.0.3 updated to 10.0.4 then to 10.1). Could it be that you installed some interim betas of Mac OS 10.1 on your Mac ??? Maybe they hosed some important part of the OS...

Finally : Labels to come in 10.2 !!!

A source that has been traditionally very reliable has informed me that Apple plans to bring the labels feature back in Mac OS X 10.2 !!! I am so happy ! Especially if this proves to be true !!! ;) (I am not joking about this info, though.)

Not a rumor: OmniWeb 4.1 in September

Will OW 4.1 finally offer full javascript support and full CSS support ?

Whats in store in 10.2 and 10.3??

It has been said again and again (even by Apple) : Carbon and Cocoa are two of the native APIs of Mac OS X (Java is another one). It is true that Jobs wanted to deprecate all but the Cocoa framework, at first, but he changed his mind (after many major developers said they wouldn't adopt it)...

    Missing Features in 10.1...

By the way, Apple itself said that Mac OS X 10.0.4 is not Energy Star compliant, not me ! (I have yet to see anything on 10.1) Straight from the horse's mouth : À propos de la norme ENERGY STAR Les informations relatives à ENERGY STAR figurant dans le manuel de votre ordinateur...

    Missing Features in 10.1...

Too bad you don't see me rolling on the floor ! I do have my opinions, but I don't hate others when they don't have the same opinion than me. Except you, of course. :p The beauty of Mac OS 9 is that it caters to many different needs without ever forcing anyone to "get in the line". You can work...

    Missing Features in 10.1...

There won't be since some people seem to believe that more is not better. It also appear that if the biggest posters in this forum don't use an option, well in means that option shouldn't exist. All this to say, pal, that you should draw a big red cross over that feature... The biggest posters...
