    Live Updates of MWNY

Hi, I'm from Europe... what is ET time? Is it the same as EST? I myself am in CEST, which is EST + 6 hours. So does this means the live coverage starts within 20 minutes from now? Thanx :-)

    Virtual PC for OS X

Hi, I wouldn't go for a virtual PC anyway: 1) VPN is available for UNIX as well, so it should be available for MacOS X too. Possibly a bit difficult to setup, but worth a try. Try googeling :). 2a) Ask your Exchange admin to setup IMAP connectivity too. All Exchange servers can be...

New Ipod case: i told you!!!!

I don't want a remote. Simple: it's too heavy and it is not needed. I just want to switch it on and LISTEN. I don't want to tweak it every five secs or so. I have a remote on my Sony MD player, and I HATE IT. Because if it weight, it almost pulls the plugs from your ears. The cable is so...

Why Mac if you have PC at home? (Why "Switch"?)

Hi, First of all: good to hear you're thinking about the "switch"! :) I just switched 4 weeks ago and I NEVER switched on my PC's since then. They're currently catching dust on top of a cupboard :D. What I like about MacOS X is that I get my WORK DONE. Using Windows (also from 3.1 'till...

[newbie] trouble after reinstall - classic won't run

Hi, I reinstalled my iMac using the MacOS 9 & OS X installation CD's. Here is what I did: - booted from MacOS 9 CD and repartitioned my HDD: 1 HFS+ for MacOS 9 1 HFS+ for MacOS X 1 HFS+ for Data - installed MacOS 9 on the first partition - booted from MacOS X cdrom and installed it...

    Reinstalling X, partitioning question

does the installer ask me about partitioning during the installation? I mean, if I just backup my data to a CDR, popin the OS 9 CD and boot from it... will it ask me about partitioning my disks?? Or do I have to use some key-combo to achieve this? Or a third party tool??

    Reinstalling X, partitioning question

Also, do I need to install MacOS 9 first to be able to use Classic in MacOS X????? Or is it installed during OS X installation???

    Reinstalling X, partitioning question

Hi, I've got a new LCD iMac 700 MHZ, 60 GB HDD. In another topic I read that completely REINSTALLING OS X could give me a severe performance gain. So I'm willing to try. My question: How do I partition? Is this done during Installation? I never installed MacOS... (I just came from the PC...

    [Jaguar] Performance gain? How big?

I have 384 MB of RAM which should be enough for just some mailreading, browsing and IM'ing? Shouldn't it? I'm thinking about replacing the added 128 MB (which I happened to have lying around) with a 512 MB module though. Makes 750 :)

    [Jaguar] Performance gain? How big?

A question for the Jaguar BETA testers in this forum: What will my performance gain be? Approximately, in percentages? 10%? 50%? Make me happy :) I currently run OS X 10.1.5, on a G4 700 MHz LCD iMac, and it runs ok. Not too fast, but ok. When I have a lot of apps open it will slow down...

Why the new imac will fail

I was a PC user for over a decade (since 1987 actually). Had it all from windows 3.1 till windows XP. And it SUCKED. Tried Linux too. Very cool for running your personal mailserver, webserver or whatever. But not as a desktop (however, KDE 3 is nice). It's just inconsistent and it is NOT EASY...

Yet another newbie looking for purchase advice

I'm a newbie too (join the club ;-)), but what I do know is that in most laptops (same for the PowerBook I guess) is that they put in 2.5" hard discs, which are severely slower than the normal 3.5" HDD's in normal desktop machines. This is because a 2.5" spins at 4500 rpm (rounds per minute)...

Newbie: how about the 700 MHz iMac?

Thanx for all the helpfull replies! I can add that I just ordered my iMac this morning. I had to decide quickly, because it was on discount severely (tip for all dutch people here: iMac 700, with 256 MB and combodrive for 1899 EUR!!! (normal price 2300) at RAF (retailer in A'dam, R'dam...

Newbie: how about the 700 MHz iMac?

Hi, Note: please warn me if this post is offtopic or so. I'm new here :p Currently I am a Wintel user. I do not have any Mac experience AT ALL... I was a BeOS enthusiast, and I use Linux for years. I use Window$ out of lazyness... So now I am currently in the process of buying a "Mac"...
