    Mac Air Remote Disk problem

Dumber than that -- I forgot you have to actually run a utility application "Remote Install" on the host machine. Still, shockingly useless error message, & Apple support document about the message. However, going through the "error report" procedure got me to a support page that documented...

    Mac Air Remote Disk problem

I'm trying to install the snow leopard upgrade onto my air from my macbook pro. I've never had problems using the remote disk this way before. Apple has some crap advice about "buy a superdrive then". This is not what I was told I'd have to do when I bought my Air, and indeed not what I've...

    installing latex

I don't get why \int is giving you an error -- here's an example of its use: http://www.artofproblemsolving.com/LaTeX/AoPS_L_GuideCommands.php#calculus

    mirrored laptops

I don't see how this helps -- I can already try (& fail) to remember which files I've updated & then shunt them around by hand -- I've been doing that badly for years (yes, even with external disks backups.) I was hoping for something a bit more elegant, less time consuming & less prone to error.

    installing latex

Re latex symbols, see http://www.agu.org/symbols.html more latex links, see http://www.cs.bath.ac.uk/%7Ejjb/here/CM50175/Joanna_Bryson%27s_Latex_Bookmarks.html (may not all be up to date) I have to admit I just still use latex from the command line; I installed tetex using fink commander!

    mirrored laptops

Sorry if I'm being dense. Can conventional backup software like Retrospect or SilverKeeper really be used to back two different laptops that are both getting changed onto one backup version of a file system? The most promising backup software I found was SuperDuper & I wrote their tech...

    file save problems

Did you ever find a solution to this? My new Air just decided stop letting applications save to Desktop, but from the terminal I can touch files there so I don't understand what's going on. But my browser (SeaMonkey) is useless for reading attachments without having write permission to...

    mirrored laptops

Actually, it is no problem finding a 3rd computer to act as a server (I don't download music & movies so I don't have *that* much data compared to modern hard drives.) But I still don't see how your solution would help me make sure both computers have the same files on them. BusySync seems...

    mirrored laptops

Retrospect wouldn't keep the two laptops with identical files. I need to be able to use either interchangeably. The air's sadly all run Leopard, which I'm not impressed by. I have paid for the upgrade to my other laptop and can make it if I have to. Joanna

    Lost all bookmarks in Safari

This isn't really a useful suggestion to you at this point, but I find keychain suspicious and don't use it, and Safari doubly so because it keeps demanding keychain access, and because it often doesn't work in other ways. I recommend using SeaMonkey if FireFox doesn't do everything you want...

    Bash login problem

I think for some reason (maybe even one I once figured out, but maybe just a dialect thing) os x ignores .bash_login -- I switched to using .bashrc instead and have no problems now. Joanna

    mirrored laptops

I now have a fast, heavy laptop and a light, slow one. I would like to be able to use either and then have them resync every night when they are home together. This would obviously be both convenient and also safer since I'd have two copies of all my files. I don't mind paying for software...
