Mac OS X registration and privacy

At the end of the more recent Mac OS X beta versions, the installer tries to send personal data over the internet. But what about privacy? Does the final version this too? And is it possible to disable it while having a permenent internet connection? (LAN) I don't like the idea my...

    Bootable OS X CD copy?

Have you tried a CD-to-CD copy utility like DAO? I don't have a CD-burner for my Mac, but in my PC I use CDrWin to copy CD's exactly. It works also for Macintosh CD's (Windows can't read that filesystem) and maybe also for Mac OS X, because it copies just every sector.

    Bootmanagers for the Mac

Yes..I have that bootX installed. You talking about bootp? But I can\\\'t make OS 9 the default OS with bootX, it boots Linux by default and I want OS 9 by default.. I am an operatingsystems-freak. But living in a small room (student). So I can\\\'t have a computer for each...

RAm and Macos X final version

Yes, but PD asks with how much ram the system won\'t go faster anymore. I think 192 is a lot of RAM, enough for doing the normal things. Going to 384 MB RAM (a very big upgrade) only makes sense when you do extreme things like very heavy games, heave development work or big graphics...

    Bootmanagers for the Mac

On my I-Mac I run OS X, OS 9 and I also want to install Linux and OpenBSD. When I want another operatingsystem, I have to select a different bootdisk or start Linux with a Linux loader. I have some PC\'s too. For them I\'ve written a small program that let me choose an OS directly after...

    AppleWorks 6

I STILL WANT OS 8.6 - Can I do it?

Yes I think that will work. In that situation you have 3 OS-es installed and with the bootdisk control panal you can switch between the different operatingsystems. Mac OS 8.6 won't integrate with OS X so OS X will use 9 when you run a classic application from it ... but you can still use...

Can I Download MacOS X for Free?

I think it's a shame that Apple lets pay it's users for a beta-version! Just like Microsoft, when the beta of Windows 2000 came out, it costed 50 dollars. People who are beta-using software are helping the developers by testing and finding bugs... So we pay for helping Apple? A little...

    Connecting with AppleTalk

But that means that Mac OS X can't communicate with computers that have filesharing though AppleTalk, for example Macs with older Mac OS-es. If you can't use AppleTalk to access files on other Macs, why is there a tab "AppleTalk" in the network control panel?

Strange...my Dutch OS 9 works without any problem with Mac OS X.

    Connecting with AppleTalk

I have a problem connecting to my other Macs in the network. When I enable Appletalk and choose the windows "Connect to server " with menu "go -> connect to server", and I choose "Local network", the computer will search forever without finding something. I have two Apple talk computers: 1...

    OSX Deathly slow

At my machine it's also not very fast. Not as fast as Mac OS 9.0.4. I have it installed on an IMac G3 333, 160 MB RAM, 6 GB disk....OS X is on a 2 GB second partition. But...Mac OS X Public beta is very much faster than Mac OS X DP 4. OS X Developers Preview 4 was a disaster to run...

    Backspace at login-screen

When you press backspace at the login-screen (the focus must not be at an input field) then the mousecursor dissapears. When moving the mouse, the mousecursor will re-appear. It's not needful, but I found it and like to share this easteregg/feature or what you want to call it, with the...

    Don't use telnet!

You're right...SSH is much better, telnet is old. SSH is secure telnet isn't. You said sshd compiled fine. But how do you install it manually? Did you manage to get ssh running with your OS X box? It would be very nice when this is possible, so I can safely use my Darwin terminal...

    Virtual Terminals

I don't think it's possible. Ofcourse Mac OS X is unix based but it isn't a Unix like Linux or FreeBSD. It's a graphical operatingsystem so there aren't terminals (but it's possible to have a terminal in a window or from another computer with telnet), but a workspace. Graphics...
