    Router/Hub

I'm using a Farallon FriendlyNet router/hub which works well, and set up on a 2 Mac 1 Dell network. I'm using it with a cable modem, but it has a port for connecting with a 56K modem if you need to... even lets you share a parallel port printer. It cost me around $70, counting shipping, and set...

    Getting kinda slow around here...

I am both a member here, and a senior moderator at macfora. While there is something to what Inline_guy says, I would like to point out that the frivolous posting mostly takes place in the Lounge, where we encourage 'chatter' about any old thing, as long as it stays PG-13 in topic and language...

    Dialup PPP: regular disconnects.

Connections with 'problems'... line noise caused by a number of factors anywhere from your house to the ISP's server... are the most common cause of this. A noisy connection often cannot sustain v.90. If it shows up more often in rainy weather (where water may be getting in a junction box), or...

    Internet autostarts in os x

The first three places to check are all in System Preferences. In Date and Time/Network make sure 'Use Network Time Server' isn't checked. In QuickTime/Update make sure that 'Check for updates automatically' isn't checked. In Software Update make sure that 'Update automatically' isn't checked...

    quick jaguar Q

I haven't been able to get it to see my internal SCSI drives, even though the drivers seem to be there. Adaptec 29160N... DP800/1.5GB RAM. My Agfa SnapScan 1212u almost works with it... the scan completes, but then Jag re-launches during the export process. My Epson 880i is seen and correctly...

    What's your age?

Four days older than dirt, here. My first dog is now oil. Trees planted at my birth are now coal. My first computer was powered by compys on a treadmill. Over the hill? What hill? Where?

    Opening Quicksilver CD-R

Manually open the door. There is a tiny hole near the right-side door hinge. That's it. No need to bend our beloved paperclips back into their original shape!

    Just out of curiosity...

No 9 on mine... I keep an old 8 gig around that still has 9.2.2 on it, and I can stick it back in the tower if I have to... but I haven't had to since Q3A and DII:LOD have been ported. 9 was then. X is now.

Yet another newbie looking for purchase advice

I'd suggest Coast-to-Coast for the best price/support for memory purchase... they will make sure that your memory is compliant with newer firmware, or Crucial Memory for better (ie. CL2 = more expensive than CL3, but is slightly faster) memory. PriceWatch is good if you know exactly what...

    battery for old Performa 6100?

It is a 'one half AA'... and most Radio Shacks have them. Apple has them, too... call your nearest Apple distributor... but as usual, they're kinda pricey. Even so, the shipping cost more than the battery.
