Security Update 2004-05-24 out: fixes HelpViewer issue

It is. Install the update, try the proof-of-concept exploit on the unsanity site. Also, Secunia has an advisory on this as well: http://secunia.com/advisories/11689/

    RealPC coming back

The info page for SoftWindows (I think it's just RealPC with Window 98 preinstalled) says that it "Shares your MacÕs IP address" ( http://www.fwb.com/html/softwindows98.html ), so one can only assume that you would be able to run IIS and connect to localhost in your Mac browser. Of course...

    mySQL broken after 10.2.4 update

I guess I haven't used mySQL in a very long time. I had installed it a year ago from Marc Liyanage's site, and just found this specific problem mentioned in his FAQ here: http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/mysql/#faq It turns out that it was actually the update from 10.1 to 10.2 (back in...

    mySQL broken after 10.2.4 update

Just updated from 10.2.2 to 10.2.4. I've discovered that the command line 'mysql' utility no longer works. It might not be related to the upgrade, as I haven't had to use mysql in a while, but I can't think of anything else I might have changed. All of my webapps that use mySQL are still...

Whoa! 12" PowerBook has a Windows/Right-Click keyboard button?

Says it is "for use with PC emulation software."

You could also use the Preview app to open the PDF and then save it in any number of formats.

active server on macos 9.2 (asp)???

asp (active server pages) is a Microsoft technology for server-side scripting. As far as I know, it only works with Microsoft IIS servers. I don't think you will ever get this to work on your Mac.

    Programming Java

Java in OS 9 is very outdated. The latest JDK available is only 1.1.8. I expect that your course uses at least 1.3. http://developer.apple.com/java/classic.html

    will 10.2 break mySQL/Postgres/fink/gimp?

Might it be easier to change the uid of the "new" mySQL user back to the uid of the old one (assuming you can figure out what the old uid was). This can be done with Netinfo Manager I believe.

    will 10.2 break mySQL/Postgres/fink/gimp?

I have a bunch of Unix software that I've compiled and/or installed on my iBook under 10.1.5. mySQL, Postgres, the gimp and XDarwin are the four that I use the most and rely on to do my work. Does anyone know if these will continue working if I upgrade to 10.2? I really can't afford the...

    The Jaguar Bugs Thread

Jaguar bugs: Can't get Kerberos Login Authenticator to work. Mail.app supposedly has support for KPOP. I can get it to grant me tickets, but it won't download my mail. Jaguar incompatibilities: Norton Antivirus 8.0.2 fails to load at startup. Also, LiveUpdate will download new...

    Exchange Server email APPS??

My understanding (which is not very reliable at all) is that something special needs to be done by the Exchange administrator to enable POP or IMAP access. "Native" access to an exchange server, via Outlook, uses a proprietary Microsoft Protocol. Again, my information may not be accurate. I...

    Exchange Server email APPS??

from: http://www.apple.com/macosx/jaguar/compatibility.html Kind of short on details, but at least it gives some hope.

    Crazy perl problem!

OK, I hadn't actually poked around to see what the maintenaince scripts were and what they did. I just remember finding file that were in the neighborhood of hundreds of MB in /var/log a few months ago. I suppose that is because I have a laptop, and it is usually turned off or asleep when the...

iMac will not go online after thunderstorm? Help!!!

At the help desk where I used to work, we would always get at least 1 call the day after a thunderstorm from people who had fried modems, so it is pretty common. In your case though, since the Airport is otherwise working, it doesn't seem possible that only the ethernet port would have been...

    Crazy perl problem!

I believe OS X runs maintenance scripts periodically to rotate log files, etc. It was probably just this. If for some reason the scripts hadn't been run recently, the log files can get quite big, which could explain why you have so much free space now. I don't think the log files would be...

Putting a NVIDIA Geforce 4 MX in my new iMac

I thought about this myself once. Scoured the net trying to find someone else who had done it, and didn't come up with anything. It would definitely require a lot of delicate and intricate work. The potential to really foul something up and trash your motherboard would be immense. If anyone...

    Virus protection? Come On!

And how would you necessarily know that is was an AppleScript attachment? What if it had a custom icon to make it look like a Word doc. And I think there are a large number of newMac users who have no idea what AppleScript is. What if the message is from a colleague, and the body of the...
