10.1 Update

I could never solve the firewire problem... so is there a way to copy all of the files from the 10.1 update cd onto a different partition on my G4, then trick it into booting off of that partition instead of the CD?

You wouldn't have to trick it -- you can try copying all the files from the CD to a separate HD partition, then select that partition in the "Startup Disk" control panel/system preference pane. If you can't select it, I doubt it will work.

I did copy all of the files onto a differernt partition. The installer would not let me boot from there... so I tried booting it from that partition myself. I was stuck in Unix for a long time... untill I found the right keyboard combination to start into 9.2.1. Any other ideas???
