I've just bought an Ipod Classic having been told in the store it would work with my laptop which is a PowerbookG4. However, now I am home I discover it will not work as it requires operating system 10.4.11 or later. On speaking to the people at apple they say that my machine will not support 10.5 operating system and that you cannot any longer get hold of 10.4.11 or upgrade from 10.3.9 to 10.4.11 so I have an Ipod that I cannot use. They suggested buying a new laptop which will cost in excess of £1,700 - this seems totally stupid to me as I like my Powerbook at it works fine. Admitedly it can be a bit slow and will not store any more photos as there is no room left but it basically works fine without problems - I do not understand why they make things that will not work on their own products? Help person suggested getting more RAM in my Powerbook and then buying 10.5 which will work with extra ram but that this will then be redundent when 10.6 comes out and within a year it will be redundent with other newer apple products so I will only have to upgrade the computer then ..... does anyone have any advice about how to get hold of something that will upgrade my laptop from 10.3.9 to 10.4.11 ....??? Otherwise I will have to go back to store and see if they will give me a refund for the Ipod as well as a refund for the portable speakers we bought and the headphones. Bloody apple - cannot believe they make stuff that does not work on their own products - smacks of being a total con and that they are building in obselesionce to their machines so that they can make us all buy more products which again I say is stupid as what i have works perfectly.
Any advice gratefully received.
