10.4 not booting up after clean install

I reinstalled tiger on my mac mini, everything went smooth. I rebooted and the system hangs on "os x is starting up..." (right before what would be the login screen). The tiger installation disc is still in, but the system just does not boot up into the desktop/workstation. Any ideas how to fix this? I'm not very familiar with macs.

thank you.

How long did you wait before deciding it was frozen? IIRC, my Mac took a few minutes to boot up the first time after installing 10.4 clean... subsequent boots were much faster.

Perhaps it's not really frozen?

i'd say around 10 minutes, it's not frozen, it just hangs. The "moving bar" (the blue thing that shows it's working) keeps moving.
