10.5.7 Finder freezes - why?

Every so often the Finder just freezes: can't select any desktop icons or dock apps. Relaunching Finder always fixes it, but it is annoying. I have repaired permissions, cleared caches, no dice, still happens. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Allan

Try creating a new user account and see if it happens under the new account. If not, then that points to something wrong (a corrupt preference file, a login item, etc.) that's specific to your user account, and not a system-wide problem.

Do you have Stuffit installed anywhere? I ask because in the past the Stuffit plugin plays havoc with OS X point upgrades & the Finder updates.

I thought of this, but it's not too practical, since I have to have access to all of my stuff to work, and the problem only shows up occasionally...

I only have the Stuffit Expander. I have had it for a long time, and the Finder-freeze problem is quite recent.
